I'm still "any republican but Giuliani or Hagel for president in 2008", but Romney is no conservative (despite what that idiot Bloomberg may say.)

What got me were just two things:

Romney signs off on permanent assault weapons ban

And that horrible, horrible healthcare bill he signed. I knew nothing about it until I say a CBS Sixty Minutes report on. In it, they followed this sterotypical-in-most-ways welfare queen who was so happy when it passed. She had "the government OWES me a living" attitude that I just cannot stand. When it was signed into law, she became the first person to sign up for "free" healthcare paid for by Massachusetts taxpayers. She had no shame in it either. Romney is a complete disgrace for signing that bill.

Is it fair to say that if he had vetoed the AWB legislation that it would have been overidden by the legislature and the pro-gun provisions would have been scrapped ? It is a deep blue state .

And that horrible, horrible healthcare bill he signed.

He worked with Hoover thinktank on it. He avoided the employer mandates, the key flaw in Arnold's implementation in CA.

Whether you like it or not, many Blue states are going to mandate healthcare or at least health insurance, the same way we already mandate car insurance.

When we talk about sending issues back to the states like overturning Roe, we should understand in advance that it means there will be outcomes like this in the Blue states. I think there are signs that the courts (and the Court) are moving and have moved in this direction, the most recent being that overturning of the D.C. laws on possessing handguns.
