A health teacher made 8th graders read aloud explicit questions about oral sex and masturbation during a sex-education lesson at a suburban school this week, outraging parents who demanded the teacher be disciplined.
The principal at Wolcott School in Thornton said he learned of the lesson early Friday after numerous phone calls from parents and directed the health teacher to apologize to his class for the two-day lesson.
Parents say this apology isn't enough. They plan to attend the Thornton School District board meeting next week to demand that the 27-year-old teacher, Scott Groff, be suspended or fired.
"My daughter brought it to our attention because she was disgusted with it," said Grady Braley, father of a Wolcott 14-year-old. "There's certain things at her age they need to know. But this was a how-to manual."
"It's creepy, and I'd like to know why he's still teaching."
Braley's daughter, Sandi, said she objected to the lesson, but the teacher told her it was part of the school's "human sexuality" curriculum.
"I just felt really uncomfortable talking about this in a class with boys and girls," Sandi Braley said. "I was like, 'Mr. Groff, why do we need to learn this?' He just looked at me and said, 'Calm down, calm down.'"
Even a local organization that is pushing to get more comprehensive sex-education programs into Illinois schools said the material and the way it was taught was "really over the top."

Unfortunately it has been the "norm" atleast since 1974. Not sure if they still offer Sex. Ed. in 5th grade but they did when I went to school and the only thing different was that the students would write the questions, put them in a box and the teacher would ask the questions out loud using whatever explicit language was written.
Some students would actually test the teachers by writing the worst possible questions using the worst language you could think of and there was no limit.
I'll just bet he did.
Maybe he should have asked her to stay after class so he could discuss her concerns in more detail privately.

We have stooped that low as to teach about oral sex in the classroom, we are a morally decaying country.
Any oral sex dissertation in a classroom should be called the Bill Clinton Lesson. What a shameless disgrace.
8th grade verbal porn at the taxpayer's expense is over he top for me at least.
And to think, in 8th grade I got an in school suspension for having a Playboy magazine in my gym bag. Now it is the TEACHERS who are bringing in the smut!
Anybody see Monty Pythons "The Meaning of Life"?? Thats the first thing I thought of when I read this, but I'm a goofball.
This is, sadly, not surprising anymore.
to me, its very wrong that you can not have God in school, but you can have all the sex you want
Oh dear....

This is bizarre. When I was in school (80's), our sex ed (which was actually part of our health class) consisted of diagrams on how babies were made and information on STD's. It was all things that you could find in almost any medical reference book. That was it. It must have lasted for less than a week and then we moved onto other things. Why have we moved onto giving pornography to our youth? I certainly don't want to pay for that. Crazy.
This must be from the How to be a Porn Star 101 curriculum.

If I tried asking people those questions, I'd probably be arrested.
The article referenced avert.org Sex General Questions. That's a copy of the questions from their site. It was pretty clear that the answers to these questions were written from a female point of view.
No doubt the 8th graders had been asking themselves this very question even before they came to the class.
When I was in school (late 50s into the 60s) our health class didn't have anything on sex and the most personal it got was washing hands after going to the bathroom.
