Vatican II blew this all up, it used to be every FRIDAY....
what a joke the last generation of RCC leadership has been...and now JP II considered for sainthood? Give me a break.
Whatever...you don't seem to accept the common theological opinions regarding Natural Family Planning, so I'm obviously not going to be able to convince you.
I'm not a great fan of NFP, as I do believe it can be misused. But it is not inherently bad as you seem to be claiming.
I didn't see the interview, so I don't know exactly what happened. But, Fr. is right in what he says in his column. Sean is simply wrong about artificial birth control, and I hope he eventually realizes that.
"common theological opinions"? what the heck is that? Is it similar to the common scientific opinions on Global Warming ala. Algore?
Has the Pope spoken "ex cathedra" on "Natural Family Planning" as a system ? uh, NO. So it is all opinion isn't it.
FATHER is a coward. He doesn't need to waste ink on the likes of Sean Hannity until he's covered the vast myriad of overtly pagan, syncretist, blaspheming so-called catholics in the public square like Kennedy-Durbin-Leahy-Kerry-Matthews-Begala- ad infinitum..... We don't need a column warning us about Sean Hannity's so called inconsistency on birth control from a COWARD that proposes so-called "Natural Family Planning" that has a GOAL OF THE SAME RESULT as the mechanical supported means.
Good on the good Father to speak the truth and good on Sean to give him a platform.
Lemme ask you this: are you trying to say that artificial birth control is OK? Or just that Sean Hannity should not be criticized?
ALL birth control is sinful ....mechanical or other planned methods....the RCC can't wriggle out of this.
Sean, like all of us may be criticized...but it is totally skewed and unbalanced to undress him in a public way while he has not done the same to far worse "sinners" who claim to be catholic.
OK...at least now I better understand where you're coming from. As I said, I'm not a huge NFP fan, because I think that it is dangerous, and can be misused if one is not doing it with the correct attitude.
I don't get it.
I have used NFP successfully for six years and actually am qualified to speak on it. Maybe it's not for you, but there's no need to ridicule someone just because their personal choices aren't the same as yours.
There's nothing wrong, according to Catholic Church teachings, with birth control. Artificial Contraception is morally wrong, according to Church teaching.
There is nothing wrong with practicing self control. There is something wrong with hedonism.
Well, you're in mortal sin then as you intend to thwart God's plan for continuity of families.....better confess it.
I invoke the thoughts/intention rule as Christ did with adultery in Matt 5:27-30.
How does it feel? The padre did the same thing to Hannity last night.
You're smug because there are no artificial/man-made devices in your method...sorry, that doesn't fly at the Particular Judgment
Actually, you're incorrect as in applies to Catholic teaching. Maybe your belief system says so.
There is nothing wrong with spacing births for legitimate reasons, such as the surgery I am having next month. It all has to do with intent. And whether you love in a nonlife giving manner, which mocks the life giving love of the Father.
Off to retreat, I have a feeling you and I will continue this conversation later.
During retreat, make sure to confess the sin of avoiding children while enjoying conjugal relations...
Natural Family Planning (NFP)
NFP is an umbrella term for certain methods used to achieve and avoid pregnancies. These methods are based on observation of the naturally occurring signs and symptoms of the fertile and infertile phases of a woman's menstrual cycle. ....... No drugs, devices, or surgical procedures are used to AVOID PREGNANCY. (emphasis mine)

Translation: We've found a way to circumvent God's will for catholic families to propogate children...yahoo ! Now, I ask you, does this violate the spirit of the teaching? Of course it does !
Also this is bullcr*p from bishops, the same crowd who supports illegal aliens, high taxes, etc, etc.
"Hit piece..." Hmmmm
The priest has publicly denounced Pelosi (link is above). Was that also a hit piece? What I am hearing is defensiveness. I guess it depends on whose ox is being gored.
Sean has misrepresented the teaching of the Church and was publically corrected.
I am curious as to why he even brought this up on his show.
Source that, please.
Brucifer, thanks for the first laugh of the day.
The second laugh was your tagline. Most excellent!
Genesis 1:28 for one....also Onan was killed for "spilling his seed" on the ground instead of propagating children for his brother's family....Gen 38
If the early church of Perpetua, Agnes, et. al. ...getting slaughtered as is was...practiced your "Natural Family Planning" techniques....we wouldn't be here.
Wise guy.
In other words,
A Bible verse + one angry man = the truth.
Am I reading you?
That is the larger issue. How can it be anything but sinful to support a politician that is rabidly in favor of killing unborn children, to the point of having supported taxpayer funding for abortion and contributing to pro-abortion groups like NARAL? And, how can it not be a sin to support a candidate that rabidly is in favor of the homosexual agenda that never missed a chance to march in gay pride parade?
