Carter stands firm on apartheid accusations against Israel

Despite the storm it ignited, former U.S. president Jimmy Carter held fast on Thursday to his accusation that Israel oppresses the Palestinians on the West Bank and Gaza and seeks to colonize their land.

Speaking at The George Washington University to a polite but mostly critical student audience, Carter offered no second thoughts on his book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid that prompted 14 members of the Carter Center's advisory board to resign and drew fire from Jewish groups and some fellow Democrats.

He said he was not accusing Israel of racism nor referring to its treatment of Arabs within the country. "I defined apartheid very carefully as the forced segregation by one people of another on their own land," he said.

Outside the university auditorium, some two dozen protesters gathered, a few carrying signs. "Carter is a Liar" read one held by a smiling demonstrator while the others chanted the refrain.

"We were trying to tell Carter his lies are not helpful," a local rabbi, Shmuel Herzfeld, said afterward. "It is very clear the lies are malicious, and it raises issues what his motives are," Herzfeld said.

"I believe Jimmy Carter is an anti-Semite and his intention is to hurt Jewish people," said Herzfeld, rabbi at Ohev Sholom, in an interview.

Lord, God,

He's an embarrassment to

--Thinking Americans.

--Your chosen tribes.

--seems to me, to you.

Hasn't he worn out his welcome pretty well everywhere, Lord?

Isn't there some way to shut him up and limit his writings to toilet paper?

Perhaps he could go as ballast to the first moon colony?

Carter doesn't care that he is wrong or that this makes him look like an idiot. He knows that leftist lemmings all over the world wil take his words as a command and proceed to bash Israel.

So Jimmah wants to murder Israel to like he did Rhodesia/Zimbabwe and Iran. He has to have noticed how both of the later countries have gone straight to hell to the great misery of their people and I bet he still stands by his doctrinaire positions. He could not suffer enough for the damage he has done.

Jimmy's legacy, he created alot of lifetime Republican voters.

I pissed off a lefty awhile back (I love doing that) when he asked me who was most responsible for creating the "neoconservative" movement. He was wanting to rant about the the stupid Leo Strauss theory, but instead I answered, "Jimmy Carter!"

Which is quite true. Hundreds of leading Democrats (or ones who would later be prominent) ran screaming from the party primarily in reaction to Jimmy Carter's foreign policy fecklessness. We got some of our best and brightest, from Wolfowitz to Krauthammer to Jeane Kirkpatrick, from this exodus.

There was a group around then, called The Committee on the Present Danger that was kind of like the DLC today (more moderate Democrats, but even more hawkish). Mondale met with them and assured them he would keep Carter on the straight and narrow, national security wise, but Carter himself refused to meet with the group or its member. This group would later defect to the Republican party almost en masse, and those that didn't would nevertheless later align themselves with Reagan in various ways or work for his administration.

How can one man be so stewpid?

In the immortal words of Forest Gump: "Stewpid is as stewpid does."

He said he was not accusing Israel of racism nor referring to its treatment of Arabs within the country. "I defined apartheid very carefully as the forced segregation by one people of another on their own land," he said.

But I thought leftwing "indigenous pipples" wanted to be segregated onto their own mystical motherlands, with no vile foreign foot ever to desecrate it.

Isn't all that in The Communist Manifesto, right next to the part about ethnicly cleansing Scotland of Anglo-Saxons???

They reconstituted themselves a couple years ago. A rather distinguished list of members.

I wish I could claim credit for it, but no. I swiped it off of a previous Cynthia McKinney thread. Don't recall who created it, but alas, it wasn't me.

Here's some very good historical info on the CPD (even though it's by a leftist org that thinks national security is a BAD thing):

You might be interested in knowing that the president of GWU, where he spoke, is (to the best of my knowledge) a Jewish Clintonista Demonrat.

"The life of the Palestinians is almost intolerable," [Carter] said. "And even though Israel agreed to give up Gaza and remove Jewish settlers from the territory, there is no freedom for the people of Gaza and no access to the outside world."

Memo to Carter: The restrictions on the "freedom" of the Palis which you allege have nothing to do with the Israelis, but rather with the PA government which the "Palestinian people" themselves elected. And, while you claim that the people of Gaza have no freedom, apparently they do have the freedom to launch Qassam missiles into Israeli territory and have access to Israel to carry out suicide bombings against Israeli civilians.
