While I am loathe to defend the MSM, it is my understanding that Newt himself pushed this issue back into the spotlight, as part of a J. Dobson / FoF interview that's to be aired today.
IMHO, this proactive - and early in the primary season - 'confession' shows that Newt might actually be seriously considering a run for POTUS.
