Faggot is not a forbidden slur.
It is quite common in art and literature, it is a slang word among youth of the last few decades, and it is also a description of a particular type of gay....the flaming, flamboyent, uber effeminate variety.
Personally, I don't have it at the high end of the Outrageous Word Scale. It's probably about a 5 or 6. The "N" word is a 10.
FWIW, Elton John gladly supported Eminem's work that was laced with the word faggot.
I think it's an ugly word, and can say that for a board that prizes itself on linguistic cleanliness it's been weird seeing it in print umpteen times in these threads.
I don't even like them calling it a 'slur'. The word beginning with an 'n' that must not be uttered is a slurring of an appropriate word, 'negro', meaning 'black.' To now say that any word somebody doesn't like is a 'slur' is a self-serving twisting of the language.
In politics it is, it's use does nothing to advance the conservative agenda.
