The English, Australian, Irish, and Canadian actors in the movie Cold Mountain did a credible job with Southern speech....because the "southern accent" has more in common with the "English" accent. Southerners, especially those from Appalachia, ancestors were mostly Scotch-Irish and English.

Hey, Hillary is bilingual. She learned to speak 'southern' in Arkansas. After all, she was Arkansas's First Lady--so she DOES speak the language.

Sort of like Molly Ivins.
Most people thought she was native Texan, but she was born in California, moved to Houston where she was placed in high priced elite prep schools. Later she went on to the upper east coast for higher education. Eventually, she moved back to Texas where over night she suddenly developed a drawl. Remarkable.
