It may be either.

All I know for sure is that Eaker is a whack job.

Great post. It would appear that the owner is one of those "social conservatives" who are now vilified daily on this same website!

People who claim to be "conservatives" assert monotonously that "socons" have taken over the Republican Party, when it is clear to me that people who hate traditionalist conservatives are the ones who have "invaded" this forum and the conservative movement at large. In fact, this is the story of America: The Founding Fathers were believers who based their politics on Judeo-Christian concepts of the dignity and worth of every individual person, yet people who enjoy the results are openly hostile to their source.

I'm a conservative, but I am not a Republican nor have I ever been one.

It's a conservative website. Many Republicans in Congress used to be conservative. This was a long time ago. They changed, we stayed consistent with our principles.

Now, it is frequently difficult to tell the difference between a Democrat and a Republican. Sometimes you have to look at the lapel pin.

Do you have a reading comprehension problem? The Republican party is only conservative as long as we are willing to fight to keep it that way.

FR was conceived and grown as a conservative website without a doubt.

This current struggle within has spawned more vanity posts than I believe I have ever seen in all of my years here.

It's a site populated in part by confused conservatives, vilified Libertarians, RINO's, closet authoritarians, lurking trolls, wavering constitutionalists, true conservatives, unaffiliated patriots, the eager seeking to learn and others not easily pigeonholed.

The very flower of the tumult in American politics.

If you leave this site unaffected and unchallenged, there's something wrong with you.

Can we please stop posting a comment just to tell someone to read your tagline. There is a pretty sharp group of folks here and if you have something worth reading, it will be read. Thanks.

I have always thought of Free Republic as a Republican site.

The question posed for discussion: Is FreeRepublic a Conservative Website Or Is It A Republican Website? and Is FreeRepublic Carrying On The Original Intent Of The Owner?

As teenagers say:

"Duh!"

A conservative website, originally populated by monthly subscriber conservatives mostly of the Republican Party affiliation. Lately, sleeper cells of "psudeo-conservatives" are attempting to shove liberal RINOs down our throats, IMHO, against the owner's purpose statement.

it's been infiltrated lately. We already knew about the Darwinists, but this Ann Coulter thing has caused the Pro-Homo crowd to out themselves. Almost like it's a coordinated effort. Soros, is that you?

"Free Republic is the premier online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America... "

Don't see the word 'Republican' in there.

Back in 97 when I joined it was definitely a conservative site with a lot of open, lively discussion on a myriad of topics. Since GWB was elected it has become more of a Republican partisan site.

Jim Robinson has made it quite clear(especially over the past month) that indeed this is a conservative website.
