The main page seems to indicate a conservative website.

Even though we are still almost two years out from the presidential election, it is clear that the candidates are campaigning in earnest.

They should be. First debate is one month from today.

Who cares? It's Jim Robinson's site. However he defines "conservative" is what the standard is. If he changes his viewpoints, then the website should reflect it. It's a privately owned and operated public forum.

Furthermore, valuable posters have discussed their disatisfaction with the website as a forum for discussing conservatism and some have threatened to leave.

Really? Who?

How bad can things be? I've been watching for the first FReeper threatening to move to France if Rudy is the nominee, haven't seen it yet.

It is not a Republican website - it is a conservative website. At least that is what I have been told.

Neither, we are a gun discussion board.

The paranoia and gloating that Mr. Zumbo’s name has evoked on gun discussion boards like ar15.com and freerepublic.com speak for themselves.

Cowardice asks the question, 'Is it safe?' Expediency asks the question, 'Is it politic?' Vanity asks the question, 'Is it popular?' But, conscience asks the question, 'Is it right?' And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because one's conscience tells one that it is right." -- Martin Luther King Jr.

A just law is a man-made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law. -- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

There is no neutral ground in the universe--every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counterclaimed by Satan. -- C.S. Lewis

A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, are incompatible with freedom. --Patrick Henry

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other. -- President John Adams

The foundation of national morality must be laid in private families...How is it possible that children can have any just sense of the sacred obligations of morality or religion if, from their earliest infancy, they learn their mothers live in habitual infidelity to their fathers, and their fathers in as constant infidelity to their mothers? -- John Adams

When there is a lack of honor in government, the morals of the whole people are poisoned. There is no such thing as a no-man's land between honesty and dishonesty. Our strength lies in spiritual concepts. It lies in public sensitiveness to evil. Our greatest danger is not from invasion by foreign armies. Our dangers are that we may commit suicide from within by complaisance with evil, or by public tolerance of scandalous behavior. -- President Herbert Hoover

Virtue, morality, and religion. This is the armor, my friend, and this alone that renders us invincible. These are the tactics we should study. If we lose these, we are conquered. -- Patrick Henry

Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains. A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom. No free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue; and by a frequent recurrence to fundamental principles. -- Patrick Henry

A politician is concerned about the next election. A statesman is concerned about the next generation. -- unknown

We have staked the whole future of our new nation, not upon the power of government; far from it. We have staked the future of all our political constitutions upon the capacity of each of ourselves to govern ourselves according to the moral principles of the Ten Commandments. -- James Madison

...Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports...And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion...Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education--reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle. It is substantially true, that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government.... -- from George Washington's Farewell Address

Some are promoting liberal candidates and are upset and surprised when conservatives here get a little testy about it.

To me, it's pitiful that we're even forced to make the distinction, but forced we are. It's quite clear to me that Free Republic is a Conservative website. The Republican Party has long been viewed as the best vehicle to forward Conservatism, but that view is being sorely tested. Hopefully, we can come out of the primaries with a Republican nominee that we can all get behind in earnest, on the WOT, on taxes, on economic issues and on social issues. If we don't, the door is left wide open for further splintering of the longstanding Reagan coalition, that has elected so many Conservative Republicans. The result will be a Democrat in the White House.

Is FreeRepublic a Conservative Website Or Is It A Republican Website?

yeah, hard to say really.....

21,000 posts on the death of anna nicole, regular feeding frenzies on "zot" threads, constant personal attacks and emotional outbursts whenever any poster so much as considers a position that questions the "win at all costs because the enemy (democrats) are the devil" brain washing.........etc.

Are these the actions of conservatives and/or republicans?

if so, what does this say about those who self identify as one or both, and what does this say about both........

like it or not, we have a two party system in this country. there may be other smaller parties, but only one of the two can achieve political victory and influence public policy.

decide which one you want to be a part of folks. then work through that one, to achieve your objectives. "victory through defeat" is not possible.
