NBC Meet The Press (Tim Russert)
Below are the topics and guests announced for this program, along with my take on the "memes" that the show is trying to push. With each guest's name are a series of links that I found in a web search that helped me get a handle on who they are and what their likely positions will be when they are interviewed.
- Meme:
- The surge isn't working... it can't be working... war hero and genius Saint John Murtha says it isn't so
- Hah! Lindsey Graham says it can work! No one has ever taken him seriously... wait... we have... oops
- America is evil... no, it's the source of all evil... you know what we mean
- Scandal. Bureaucrats, those faceless evil AFSCME union members, mistreating Iraq war veterans... wait, somehow it must be Bush's fault
- Topics:
- The Troop Surge
- Congress is swirling with various plans to counter the president's troop "surge" in Iraq.
- An outspoken critic of the troop increase, the Chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, will discuss his plan, which ties Iraq war funding to troop readiness and weigh in on another Democratic proposal that would require troops to come home within six months if Iraq's leaders fail to control the violence.
- Can the "surge" work? One of President Bush's strongest supporters, a Republican member of the Armed Services Committee, discusses why the country and his counterparts in Congress should give it a chance.
- Political roundtable: Decision 2008
- Sober American history shares a stage with volatile American politics during the commemoration of the 1965 civil rights march in Selma, Alabama.
- Not only will presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama speak simultaneously at different church services, but now former President Bill Clinton will be making the trip to Selma to be inducted into the National Voting Rights Museum hall of fame.
- On the Republican side, candidates Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani spoke this week to the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington - but notably absent was Senator John McCain.

Ooooo! I forgot ABC This Week in the analysis. How could I forget Georgie Steponallofus? The fact that he's totally irrelevant to anything or anybody, even inside the beltway might have something to do with it. Plus, with Chuckie Schumer and Trent Lott, who cares? Same old same old, but the administration at least gets to chime in on the economy with the Treasury Secretary Paulson actually having a chance to explain the economy. He's not the most dynamic speaker, but that's probably good in this context. And Raddatz, Dionne and Will are just unwatchable. Yuck

PingThe Weekend Talk Show Preview Thread is up
If you want on or off of my Ping list please FReepmail me
It will also be cross posted (sometime soon) to my blog at
http://wizards.townhall.com/
Here's a sample of my usual witty commentary...
The surge hasn't failed... yet, and the usual tactic of ignoring success doesn't seem to be working out this time for the DBM (drive by media). The word seems to be filtering back, however subtly, that it might actually be working, and they can't allow that notion to take hold. Therefore it's time to take it on directly, discredit it, not with any actual facts but with critics who can be built up as all knowing and wise. Hey, it's worked before, why not now? <grin>
The other always successful technique is to generate an alternate meme to distract the sheeple from the looming success of McChimpy Bushitler... They'll give it the old college try, but it's not looking real promising so far. Sunday will tell the tale as to whether either of these arrows will find their mark.
I'm glad to get this posted early today. I have another session with my surgeon at 11, so that probably means more stitches being pulled from my eye. If so my participation today and tomorrow will be way down. Hope to talk later. TTFN

Wonder if anyone bothered to inform both Murtha and Meet the Insane that not only do that not have enough votes to get their "Surrender on Iraq Now" plan thru the US Senate, it does NOT look like they even have enough votes in the US House for it.
Remember 58 Democrat seats are in US Congressional Districts that voted 52% or more for GW Bush in 2004. The US Junk Media may be able to ignore that fact but you better believe the people who run the Democrat Party Campaign machine do not.

Thanks for the thread...
Hate that you are having to have stitches taken out today...ouch!!!
DiFi will most certainly bring up her anger over the US Attorneys that were fired...she put in some kind of legislation on that the other day.
I wonder if Fat Timmy will ask Murtha why he didn't do anything about Walter Reed....after all, hasn't Murtha bragged on almost every appearance on TV how much time he spends with the troops out at Walter Reed???
I believe he has...and IF he has been there a lot...and IF he takes time to talk to the troops and ask them how they are doing...then SURELY, one of them at some time told him how awful their life there has been....
Right???? x/s

I have had to chuckle all week...because every day the MSM would have a story about what KIND of legislation the Dems in the House and Senate were going to submit...
Changing every day....and then, late in the week...we are told the don't know WHEN they will do this.
In the meantime...the troops are going in...and getting the job done.
By the time the politicians get around to "doing something"...the military will be DONE doing their thing, in spite of the Congress, not with their help.

Mark Kilmer has posted his
The Sunday Morning Talk Shows - preview over at Redstate.COM
Update - two stitches pulled today. Rather rough.
I go back in two weeks, the 17th, when he thinks he has to "open up" the scar at one point to ease tension. No fun whatsoever.
Back into lurk mode. Reading at about 5 PPH (posts per hour).
