Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A Catholic bishop in Oregon has written an article in the church's newspaper saying that anyone who wants to remain faithful to Catholic Church teaching can't justify having a pro-abortion view. The newspaper article doesn't mention her specifically but is an indirect commentary on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Bishop Robert Vasa of the Baker, Oregon diocese, says a person can't call himself a Catholic and believe that there should be a choice to destroy human life via abortion.

The direct, intentional taking of the life of an innocent human being is inhumane and unjust. It is not just a choice, the bishop wrote in the March 1 edition of the Catholic Sentinel.
In his article, Bishop Vasa discussed an interview Pelosi, the nation's leading Democratic elected official, gave to Newsweek magazine in November 2006.

Until the Church steps up to the plate, names names and gets tough, this is just preaching to the choir. The whore will wipe her mouth and say she has done nothing wrong.
There is a simple solution - EXCOMMUNICATION! Pelosi, Kennedy and Kerry should all be at the top of the list. Excommunication is also mericfully reversible if the excommunicant repents/recants.
This is pretty much the only problem I have with the Catholic Church, these heretics should have been booted long ago.
Okay, talk is cheap. It is time for someone to do something about it.
I like how this bishop thinks Monk
The bishop of Oregon can speak the truth, but he is not in a position to excommunicate her. That would have to be done by the bishop of the diocese she belongs to--whether San Francisco or Washington, D.C. Or by the Vatican. But the Vatican seldom interferes in local political matters.
From what I understand, the Bishop of San Francisco is a question mark. And the Bishop of DC seems determined not to act. Perhaps some of his fellow bishops can embarrass him into doing something.
And the Catholic bishops can't expect to be protected by American laws and then encourage millions of aliens to break them and then steal from the largess and charity of hard working American taxpayers.
These bishops are the biggest hypocrits. They will tell their faithful to oppose abortion in the morning and then be seen at an awards banquet at night chumming it up with the Pelosis, Kennedys, Mikulskis and other baby killers.
These Dims say that they personally oppose abortion, but support someone else's decision to abort.
Try replacing "abortion" with child abuse, rape, slavery, etc. and the moral depravity of the statement is even clearer.
Unless of course that Catholic is rich and donates large sums to the Church, in which case it's OK.
Notice that Pelosi's own diocese is silent on the issue.
I understand.

Dec. 7, 2006 (CWNews.com) - The Vatican has confirmed an American bishop's decision to excommunicate members of the dissident group Call to Action.
...
In March 1996, Bishop Bruskewitz had announced the excommunication of all Catholics in his diocese who were members of Call to Action or several other dissident groups which he described as "totally incompatible with the Catholic faith."
...
The Vatican has determined that "the activities of 'Call to Action' in the course of these years are in contrast with the Catholic Faith due to views and positions held which are unacceptable from a doctrinal and disciplinary standpoint," Cardinal Re writes. He concludes: "Thus to be a member of this Association or to support it, is irreconcilable with a coherent living of the Catholic Faith."
The excommunication that Bishop Bruskewitz announced covered not only to Call to Action, but also to members of Catholics for a Free Choice, Planned Parenthood, the Hemlock Society, the Freemasons, and the Society of St. Pius X.

I've been around Catholics all my life, I saw (and see) good ones, bad ones, etc., but the only time I ever hobnobbed with their church leaders, or even met one in a social situation was at my ex father in law's, he was rich, although not particularly religious. At his house I could have drinks with a living room full of Catholic leaders.

Mother Teresa, in her famous address at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC on February 3, 1994, said, "Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people love, but to use violence to get what they want. This is why the greatest destroyer of love and peace is abortion." While many of Mother Teresa's listeners, including President and Mrs. Clinton, took issue with what she said, the truth of her words has never been seen as clearly as today. You obviously missed the following:
A priest writes to Nancy Pelosi:
Nancy, you are fooling yourself and I fear fooling many good Catholics. You are simply not in sync with the Catholic Church. Until you change your non-Catholic positions, you should stop calling yourself Catholic. Your record shows that you support embryonic stem cell research, Planned Parenthood, contraception, family planning funding, allowing minors to have an abortion without parental consent, and are against making it a crime to harm a fetus, etc. etc.
The fact that you favor married priests and women priests certainly would not classify you as conservative, but your answer to the question are you a conservative Catholic was: I think so. I was raised in a very strict upbringing in a Catholic home where we respected people, were observant, were practicing Catholics, and that the fundamental belief was that God gave us all a free will, and we were accountable for that, each of us. Each person had that accountability, so it wasnt for us to make judgments about how people saw their responsibility and that it wasnt for politicians to make decisions about how people led their personal lives; certainly, to a high moral standards, but when it got into decisions about privacy and all the rest, then that was something that individuals had to answer to God for, and not to politicians.
That sounds fair and tolerant, but your record belies high moral standards.
The NARAL rates you 100% pro-abortion. Your statement: To me it isnt even a question. God has given us a free will. Were all responsible for our actions. If you dont want an abortion, you dont believe in it, [then] dont have one. But dont tell somebody else what they can do in terms of honoring their responsibilities. My family is very pro-life. Theyre not fanatics and theyre not activists. I think theyd like it if I were not so vocally pro-choice.
Do we not elect politicians to make laws that help people honor their responsibilities, such as protecting life itself? Can politicians not tell someone else not to kill? If you can kill a baby in the womb, Nancy, why not outside of it? Oh wait, you are in favor of partial birth abortion, so-called because the baby sticks out of the mother about halfway, while the doctor sucks out the baby's brain. That seems comparable to the choice the Nazis made killing six million Jews.
Yes, Nancy, we (together with your pro-life family) would all like it if you were not so vocally pro-choice, i.e. pro-death. Until your choice is in line with Catholic doctrine, please, Nancy, do not receive the Eucharist when you attend Mass.

Maybe she can't, but, she is.

Agree.. and same applies to Rudy Guiliani.
