I see a couple of issues that I have with Thompson.
He voted for McCain Feingold and restricting "issue ads". He voted for the HUGE socialist Medicare prescription drug benefit (who didn't vote for that junk?). He may be weak on immigration. He supports affirmative action. He is somewhat pro-amnesty.
The VoteMatch quiz rates him as a slightly - very slightly - right of center Moderate.

Not sure how excited I can get about another moderate entering the race. At least he's not nearly as liberal as Giuliani and Romney and not off his freakin' rocker like McCain. I probably won't be interested in supporting him in the Primary, but it doesn't look like he's any worse than President Bush - maybe even a sliver more conservative - and I could be convinced to vote for him in the General Election. I don't see any absolute show stoppers although the McCain Feingold thing gives me some pause.

At least it's just CFR, as opposed to that and a host of other issues. I could enthusiastically support Thompson. I don't know that he's had time to comment on the present-day immigration issues we're facing, so we'd have to wait and see on that one.

A Hunter-Thompson ticket would suit me. Beats the hell out of rudy mcpain.

Did you support Bush in 04?
Because he signed that McCain Feingold bill, and pushed the drug benefit.
If Fred is more conservative than Bush on the border, I'm in.
Fred would be so much better than the three RINO's who seem to think that one of them is the inevitable nominee.

Well, I see what you're saying, and I'm not going to start pushing him as the best choice for the GOP, but...he is so much better than the three MSM candidates, that I could happily vote for him in the general election if he should be nominated.

And from the "On the issues" page, he looked pretty good on social issues.

I don't see any absolute show stoppers although the McCain Feingold thing gives me some pause. Yep, when I see candidates who voted for McCain Feingold it does give me pause. That would include Duncan Hunter.
