Military members are not supposed to speak to the press without authorization. It was like that before the war, during the war, and it will be that way after the war as well. That was not a new rule, no matter how the media wants to spin it.

I was in the Navy for over 20 years, retired in 2002 and I was never told that we couldn't talk to the press.

I don't know how it was back then. My husband has been in for 13 years, and he has always been told not to speak to the press. At spouses briefings, I have always been told the same. I'm pretty sure there is nothing legally they can do to me, but I wouldn't make my husbands life miserable to find out. I mean no disrespect, but it has always been told to us as long as I can remember.
