Blacks, Evangelicals Switch Allegiances

Two interesting trends in the 2008 presidential race were uncovered in the latest Washington Post-ABC News poll:

• African American voters, "who little more than a month ago heavily supported Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton... now favor the candidacy of Sen. Barack Obama."
• White evangelical Protestants now clearly favor Rudy Giuliani over Sen. John McCain, "despite his support of abortion rights and gay rights, two issues of great importance to religious conservatives."

In the Democratic race, the poll found Clinton with 43% support, trailed by Obama at 27% and Edwards at 14%. None of the other Democrats running received more than 3%.

On the Republican side, Giuliani leads with 44% to Sen. John McCain's 21%. Newt Gingrich had 15% support.

That said - watch this guy - I predict he will blow his top (i.e. Howard Dean) as he falls.

It's going to be ugly with McCain - bad bad temper.

I just had coffee with the girls this morning at a new tea/coffee/art gallery downtown.

One of them is an evangelical and she's voting for Rudy!!

I'm going to dinner tonight with the ladies from the neighborhood and two of them are evangelicals; I'll ask how they'll vote. One of them likes Rudy but I don't know whether she likes him more than any other candidate or not.

The only advantage about McCain is that he "served" whereas Hillary and Barack Hussein are "chickenhawks" as the rats would say; but, obviously, we can do a whole lot better with Duncan Hunter. I'm waiting for Wes Clark to come out on their side and really mix it up.

And since when have all Christians become evangelicals? Hmmm...

My ex-wife tells similar stories.

She lived and worked in NYC from about 1985 to 1993.

Having seen what Rudy did in NYC - she (a total democrat) has said she would vote for Rudy "in a NY minute".

Yup. He's been convinced that the GOP nomination was his as much as Hillary's claimed ownership of the Dem one.

Despite the best efforts of some fixated Freepers who imagine they speak for a legion of people. These folks know that the goal is to elect a good leader, not turn the GOP big tent into Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show.

To say you prefer Guiliani over McCain does not mean you would or could ever vote for Guiliani. It's just that McCain pushes people's buttons while Guiliani doesn't. But I can't agree with Guiliani on the issues. So I can't vote for him. McCain is a vain hothead I could never trust. I do not want either of these men for my President.

I notice the MSM has no problem with Rudy. Guess they are hoping the far right will sit out the vote if they don't have an anti-abortion candidate. Bingo, Obama or Hillary win with 40% of the popular vote.

One of the women at tea used to live in Montclair, NJ and she said that lots of democrats she knows personally adore Rudy and will be voting for him.

Montclair is a bedroom community to Manhattan so she knows the demographics in that area (largely Democrat) quite well.
