That's a special breed of wisdom that many on FR simply can't cope with. Nope. We didn't like sending Elian back to Castro. We didn't like killing Terri Schiavo, and we don't like electing candidates that are pro-abrortion. What exactly is your position?

I didn't like sending Elian back to Castro, but the GOP failed in making its case to the American public and pretty much had the minority position because of their inability to communicate effectively.
I didn't like what happened to Terri Schiavo, but the GOP in Congress really failed to communicate what they were doing and that alienated a lot of people. Terri's fammily's lawyers jacked up the federal hearing they got so bad, they desered to lose at that point. Very bad lawyering. Again, the GOP failed in making its case to the American public and pretty much had the minority position because of their inability to communicate effectively.
I am pro life but have voted for pro abortion candidates in my time - Rudy, Oscar Goodman, Rick Lazio, and some others. I have an oldschool conservative position on abortion - the decision should be left up to the states. I feel, sadly, that should this happen, as a practical matter nothing much would change as no state would ban first trimester abortions, anyway. I do not join conservatives who want to get an abortion ban via the courts system. Unprincipled and sucky. If it's up to the people, we have to respect the people's decision - even if its a horrible one as a matter of policy.
