Just wanted to clear the air, MM. I think it took courage for you to admit you voted for Jimmah Carter in 1976. I commend you for expressing yourself in that way here on Free Republic.
In 1976, I voted for Gerald Ford and regretted that decision ever since. I wanted Reagan and campaigned in several states for him. Ford won by a whisker. That is history. That was then and this is now. Lets not make a similar mistake again in 2008. Lets go for a conservative candidate who can give us MOST of what we want.
As you know, I haven't chosen anyone, yet. And I've only ruled out supporting Giuliani. So the door is pretty much open at this time. I'd love to see Gingrich get in the race. We shall see.
My primary fear is that we will end up with a democrat in the White House. I have grandchildren I am concerned about.
One thing about Guiliani (or McCain, for that matter) is that I know he will go after the terrorists. I feel that ALL of the Republicans (with the exception of Brownback) would do so.
In-fighting at such a personal level is not helpful. We are going to have to unite around whoever is the eventual candidate, and too much of these insults are going to make that difficult.
I will vote for and donate to whoever wins the nomination, even if it is someone I don't particularly like. I will even support McCain (whom I despise) if he becomes the nominee.
We simply cannot allow the democrats to win. They are getting smarter, and we can't count on them to shoot themselves in the foot again, and the media has gone from bias to active support for the democrats.
Unlike Jim, I think that the democrat has a good shot at winning. I am against any action that facilitates that possibility.
