"The MINUTEMAN PROJECT, Inc.," (MMP) was a concept created to defend the sovereignty of the United States of America. The organization created sought to empower American citizens in the exercise of their constitutional rights to demand redress of grievances from the government's failure to enforce United States Immigration law.
While "The MINUTEMAN PROJECT, Inc.," recognizes the efforts and contributions made by Mr. Jim Gilchrist at the inception of the organization, the MMP Board of Directors has determined that a change of leadership based on internal issues was necessary.
MMP has led the fight in this culture war being waged on the American middle-class, and in order to continue its commitment to every American citizen, today announced it will immediately implement a reorganization of internal administrative, operational, membership, and accounting policies.

All I can say in my defense is that some snakes ARE venemous, and I have NEVER before come to know any human who is as venemous as Courtney/Peterson/Whatever-she's-calling-herself-today.
Debra is the puppet master and Marvin is on the other end of the strings. Debra is hiding behind others until the fall-out is over. Marvin will be removed for some reason or other, and then she plans to emerge as the new leader. Too bad she will more likely emerge as new prisoner #201988.

Minuteman Project headed to court over internal fight
The anti-illegal immigration organization has become immobilized, with a court date this week to sort out its internal battle for control.

It was a match made in activist heaven.
Huntington Beach's Barbara Coe had toiled for more than a decade against illegal immigration, becoming the gritty grande dame of the movement. Just as progress was sputtering, along came Aliso Viejo's Jim Gilchrist and his two-week Minuteman citizen border surveillance.
The April 2005 event along a desolate stretch of the Arizona-Mexico border attracted 880 volunteers and thrust the issue back into the national spotlight. It revitalized the movement and, with Gilchrist, gave it a public face.
Coe and her California Coalition for Immigration Reform found an instant partner in the high-profile upstart. The public debate suddenly included President Bush, who called the Minutemen "vigilantes," and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who praised the border watchers. While still facing an uphill battle, activists saw support swell by the day.
Today, the Gilchrist-Coe partnership lays in tatters. On the eve of congressional debate over legalizing those now in the country without documents – a proposal opposed by Gilchrist and Coe – the fiercest battle for the activists is among themselves.
Coe and two other directors of the Minuteman Project tossed founder Gilchrist out of his official post in a January mutiny and took control of the organization's primary bank account. Gilchrist then sued the trio, saying they lacked the authority to take over.
On Wednesday, a Superior Court judge will consider Gilchrist's argument that the group and its assets should be returned to him. But restoring the movement's momentum is another issue altogether, as bickering over financial accountability has tarnished the effort's public image.
"It's more damaging than anything (opponents) could do," Gilchrist said. "Not just for our organization, but for the movement across the nation. It's not mortally damaging, but it's going to be seriously damaging for a year or so."
The dispute
Internal conflicts began surfacing late last year. Gilchrist bounced a series of checks in December. Minuteman Project Director Deborah Ann Courtney came across a newspaper article about a nonprofit group associated with the Minuteman Project being fined for fundraising violations. Other fiscal issues arose.
On Jan. 26, Coe, Courtney and Marvin Stewart were the only ones of seven directors to show up for a scheduled meeting at the Minuteman Project's Lake Forest headquarters. The door had been locked by Gilchrist, so they adjourned to a nearby restaurant – and voted to fire Gilchrist and another director.
In papers filed with the Superior Court, Coe, Courtney and Stewart say they were worried about fundraising improprieties that may have violated U.S. Postal Service regulations and Internal Revenue Service code. A lawyer for the three has filed letters with those two agencies, raising concerns that the failure to secure tax-exempt status may have led to violations.
"We have a fiscal responsibility to the public," said Courtney, who denied Gilchrist's accusation that his firing was a power grab. "People don't understand that Jim Gilchrist is impeding the progress of the Minuteman Project."
Gilchrist, a retired accountant, acknowledges that the group's accounting left something to be desired and that he mistakenly bounced checks for a short time. But he denied wrongdoing. "I want to have an audit and get internal office help," he said. "But temporary mismanagement is not a crime."
He also says Coe, Courtney and Stewart were part of an advisory board of directors that has no legitimate authority. The basis of his lawsuit is that he is the sole director with decision-making power, and so others could not remove him. It appears that is the key issue before the court.
While the group netted $430,000 in donations last year, it only has about $32,000 in its main account, according to Courtney, who said there may be other accounts she doesn't know of.
'Betrayed'
Courtney and Stewart are relative newcomers to the anti-illegal immigration movement. Stewart, an accounts payable manager at the Long Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center, joined when Gilchrist held his first border action.
Courtney, previously a mortgage broker and an activist for crime victims, came aboard during Gilchrist's failed but highly publicized congressional bid in 2005. Although Gilchrist had a national reputation by that time, Courtney says that she and others are responsible for his subsequent status.
"We got together after the congressional race and made him the superstar he is," Courtney said.
Courtney, Stewart, Coe and two others who had become close to Gilchrist were asked by him to join a board of directors early last year. Part of the dispute is whether it was an advisory board.
The Minuteman Project was the first organized involvement with the immigration issue for Gilchrist, Courtney and Stewart, but Coe was already an old hand. She formed the California Coalition for Immigration Reform in 1992 and co-authored 1994's Proposition 187. The measure called for an end to public benefits for illegal immigrants. It passed easily but was found largely unconstitutional by a lower court. Appeals by the state were eventually set aside in a settlement that essentially gutted the initiative.
Unlike Courtney and Stewart, Coe separates her organizational concerns from her opinion of Gilchrist.
"He's a national and international icon," she said. "He is fabulous. I believe Jim was misled and deceived."
According to the accounts of Courtney and Stewart, Gilchrist refused to address the issues that they – along with Coe – presented. That led to the three voting to eliminate his decision-making role.
Earlier this month, Coe resigned her post with the Minuteman Project and – unlike Courtney and Stewart – declines to discuss details of the dispute. Despite the lawsuit, Coe said she and her organization will continue to support Gilchrist and the Minuteman Project.
Gilchrist is not so forgiving. He cited Coe as a primary inspiration for launching the Minuteman Project and said she was among the people he trusted the most. But he now feels betrayed.
"The pain caused by Barbara Coe's involvement will never be healed," he said. "This came from the most unlikely of predators. It came from within."
Timeline
January 2003 – Arizona's Chris Simcox starts weekend-long citizen border watches with about 10 others, calling it the Civil Homeland Defense group.
April 2005 – Inspired in part by Simcox, Aliso Viejo's Jim Gilchrist organizes a two-week border watch that involves 880 volunteers. The anti-illegal immigration effort is dubbed the Minuteman Project and gets national publicity.
May 2005 –Gilchrist incorporates the Minuteman Project, with himself and his wife as directors.
December 2005 –Gilchrist runs in a special election for Congress. He comes in third with 25.5 percent of the vote. Simcox works on the campaign but then splits with Gilchrist and launches his own Minuteman Civil Defense Corps.
Early 2006 –Gilchrist invites five close associates to join a board of directors. He later tells reporters that the board was formed in an advisory capacity only.
December 2006 – Three directors express concerns to Gilchrist over accounting. The Minuteman Project nets about $430,000 for the year in donations and has about 2,000 dues-paying members.
January 2007 –The same three directors – Barbara Coe, Marvin Stewart and Deborah Ann Courtney – vote to fire Gilchrist and another director. The three seize control of the organization's primary bank account. Three days later, Gilchrist tells the mutinying directors that they don't have the authority to fire him and that they are fired.
February 2007 –Gilchrist files a lawsuit seeking to regain unilateral control of the group, saying that he is the only director with decision-making authority. The same day, a lawyer for Coe, Stewart and Courtney sends letters to the Postal Service and the Internal Revenue Service saying fundraising violations may have taken place without his clients' knowledge.
Wednesday –A Superior Court judge will hear Gilchrist's case.

Eichler was at the courthouse today with Jim and Sandy, but he was less interesting than Paul Seilski being hauled off. Deborah's boyfriend was arrested at the courthouse on a felony warrant and is facing 20 years in prison in Maryland. A little bird must have tipped them off.

Minuteman Project Receives Glowing Financial Audit Report
The long-awaited results of a financial audit of the Minuteman Project were presented publicly today with a positive audit report that establishes the integrity of that organization and its president, Jim Gilchrist.
The audit firm’s “unqualified” report is the most prestigious and complimentary opinion that can be given to a company by the accounting and audit industry in the United States. The audit was conducted by the Burbank, Ca. CPA firm of Terrence Milaney.
“I am elated,” Gilchrist said of the results of the two-month-long audit of the immigration law enforcement advocacy group he founded almost three years ago to bring national awareness to the nation’s illegal alien invasion crisis.
“I never doubted that the Minuteman Project would come through its annual audit with flying colors,” Gilchrist added.
The auditor’s report stated that the financial position of the Minuteman Project was in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles “in all respects.”
The Minuteman Project, founded by Gilchrist on Oct. 1, 2004, spawned a coast-to-coast movement with several hundred independent minuteman organizations sprouting up nationally. Gilchrist, known for maintaining a policy of openness to law enforcement, tax authorities, and the media, said transparency is the best policy in the business of volunteer activism.
Gilchrist’s advice to the many minuteman groups across the country: “Let’s get on with saving our country. Come on, Americans. Let’s roll!”
Gilchrist added that he expects those who attempted to steal the Minuteman Project several months ago will continue harassing him and his associates with frivolous lawsuits, malicious defamation, and other types of interference designed to stall the minuteman movement.
The audit report and accompanying financial statements will be available for viewing on the Minuteman Project and Gilchrist’s personal web sites on August 3.

After months of defending the Minuteman Project against charlatans and con-artists, the organization and its founder, Jim Gilchrist were at their breaking point. Three of Jim Gilchrist’s once trusted advisers had attempted to hijack the name, bank accounts, domains and email lists of the Minuteman Project while orchestrating a slander campaign against Mr. Gilchrist. Many of the Minuteman Project’s open border enemies in the news media intentionally mislead the public to the facts of this case to further their own agendas. I say intentionally because no real journalist would be as sloppy or selective with the truth.
For the record:

Jim Gilchrist has emerged from this episode victorious, but the fight has taken its toll on the 58 year old border watchdog. When the hijackers attempted to steal the Minuteman Project they sacked the bank accounts and took the mailing lists, crippling the organization. To make matters worse, the cost to defend the Minuteman Project from the hijackers has put the organization deeply into debt; many supporters claim that this was the hijacker’s goal to begin with.
It seems strange that this hostile takeover attempt of the Minuteman Project happened just prior to the attempted passing of the amnesty bill, the Presidential debates and several protests to free the incarcerated border agents. It seems equally strange that three advisers out of ten would assume they had the power and mandate to seize control of a National Movement. Stranger still when you consider the fact that two of the three conspirators (Stewart and Courtney) were told that their services were no longer needed just prior to the private meeting they held at a fish restaurant. It was then that the three of them decided to declare themselves the rightful owners of the Minuteman Project.
To understand the motives and methods of the hijackers, you need only look into their background…
Although Marvin Stewart likes to represent himself as a Minister, Politician and an official in the Veterans Administration, he is in fact a fraud on all three counts. His Church, “Our Lords Salvation Ministries” has no members, offers no services and ministers to no one. It does, however net Mr. Stewart a few “tax free dollars” and a means to solicit support from the gullible. Marvin Stewart is not a member of the California Republican Party, nor even a member of the Los Angeles County Republican Party Executive Committee; he is a local volunteer central committee member in a powerless district. Marvin Stewart makes his living filing frivolous lawsuits and as an accounts receivable clerk (bill collector) at the VA hospital in Long Beach.
Deborah Peterson, AKA Deborah Courtney, AKA Debbie Sielski, AKA Anne Peters has made a reputation for herself as a charlatan and social climber. In 2004, Deborah Courtney used her “special relationship” with Sheriff Mike Corona to have her drunken driving, drug and weapons charges reduced to a single misdemeanor. She repaid Corona by supporting his opponent in the next election. For all Deborah Courtney inconsistencies, she never fails to turn on her friends in a time of need.
Deborah Courtney attempted takeovers in almost every organization she has joined in the last ten years including the Aliso Viejo Republican Women Federated, the De Angelo Foundation and the Liberty Belles. It was no surprise to Orange County political insiders when they heard she had tried to steal the treasury and donor lists of the Minuteman Project. It was also no surprise to anyone that knew her that she was accused of charging the project almost $100,000, with no accomplishments to show for it (other than plagiarism and several five star hotel bills).
When Deborah Courtney started as an adviser to the Minuteman Project, she insisted that all of the advisers be given title “Director” and that her title be “Political Director”. This alone should have warned Jim Gilchrist that she was up to no good. Jim Gilchrist decided to allow his trusted advisors the title “Director” on the understanding that it came with no real power and could be revoked at any time.
During the time Deborah Courtney was with the Minuteman Project, she was disciplined several times for taking credit for other peoples work, charging the organization for personal expenses and never completing a task. She was removed as Jim Gilchrist’s political adviser after making a series of careless mistakes that damaged the Minuteman Project’s reputation with the Republican Party. After a tearful apology (and support from Coe and Stewart), Deborah was given the task of organizing the State chapters and referring new members to the Chapter heads. Instead, Deborah began to channel new members (and their donations) to fellow conspirator, Barbara Coe’s organization CCIR; Jim did not discover this until several weeks after the attempted takeover.
In mid 2006, Deborah Courtney moved hijacking accomplice, Paul Sielski into her home and claimed that they had gotten married, evidenced by Paul Sielski’s mothers wedding ring he placed on his new wife’s finger in a secret trip to Las Vegas. However, Deborah Courtney is still receiving spousal support from her ex-husband and Paul Sielski still owes his ex-wife and his children over $250,000 in back alimony and child support. Deborah Courtney convinced Jim Gilchrist to hire Paul Sielski’s internet security company (AACompSec) to “secure the website from internet predators”. Instead, Paul Sielski and his accomplice, Karl J. Vesterling changed the access codes to the website and diverted some of the online donations to an off-shore bank account run by their agent in Miami Florida. Paul Sielski and Karl J. Vesterling were paid $3,500 for their “services”; it is still unknown how much more they stole from the donors.
The last hijacker, Barbara Coe surprised everyone when she sided with Stewart and Courtney. Barbara had been seen as a driving force in the movement since she wrote and became the chief proponent of Prop 187. However, as it turns out, Barbara Coe didn’t write Prop 187 (Ron Prince did) and she was not the chief proponent (Dick Mountjoy was). In fact it was the California Republican Party and the California Republican Assembly that did all of the work and raised the money. What did Barbara Coe do? She took credit for the victory.
Barbara Coe built her reputation on the labor and sacrifices of patriots. She used her ill gotten cache with the liberty community to grow her organization, the California Coalition of Immigration Reform (CCIR). She neglected to inform her members that she also belonged to the Council of Concerned Citizens (CofCC), a racist group that uses the Confederate flag as its ensign. Barbara was the key note speaker at two CofCC conventions and is still a member in good standing today. Barbara neglected to tell anyone in the Minuteman Project of her connection to racist groups because she knew it wouldn’t be tolerated.
Barbara Coe introduced Jim Gilchrist to CCIR and he became a regular attendee of the monthly meetings. Not knowing the truth about Barbara’s past, Jim was happy to accept her support and friendship. But soon it was Jim Gilchrist that the members of CCIR came to see and the Minuteman Project they were donating to. It wasn’t long before Barbara noticed that donations to CCIR were dwindling while the Minuteman Project was prospering. Barbara and Deborah Courtney hatched and implemented a plan to divert funds and volunteers from the Minuteman Project to CCIR.
The plot sickens…
Barbara Coe must have known it was just a matter of time before Jim Gilchrist discovered that Deborah Courtney was diverting volunteers and donations to CCIR. She also knew Deborah Courtney was on thin ice with Jim; all she had to do was convince Marvin Stewart that he was next. That piece of the puzzle came from Paul Sielski, who discovered the truth about Stewart from an online forum; now Coe and Courtney had the means to control Stewart, if they couldn’t buy him off.
Again, each of the hijackers had something to hide and they all knew that time was running out, but they weren’t ready yet; they needed a few things first. Barbara Coe sent her CCIR goons to the Minuteman Project office on a day she knew that neither Jim Gilchrist nor Steve Eichler (Jim’s Chief advisor) would be there. The goons copied the mailing lists, financial records and other crucial information onto flash drives and attempted to format the hard drives. They also took files, equipment, official stationary, furniture and broke into Jim’s office to steal anything with his signature on it. When Jim Gilchrist heard about the break in he called Barbara Coe to ask if she knew anything about it. Barbara claimed it was to protect the Minuteman Project from Steve Eichler.
Here’s where the plot gets interesting; the hijackers had to have a reason to take control of the Minuteman Project, and they needed a scapegoat. They knew that Steve Eichler had been trying to convince Mr. Gilchrist to dismiss Deborah Courtney since May, 2006. Steve Eichler had also confronted Marvin Stewart about Stewart’s unauthorized spending of Minuteman Project funds for luxury items (Stewart also presented Jim Gilchrist a bill for speaking engagements). The hijackers believed that if they could drive a wedge between Eichler and Gilchrist, Jim would side with them; they could get rid of Eichler and have plenty of time to alter the records to cover their tracks. What the hijackers didn’t know is that a Gilchrist loyalist had recently backed up all of the files and given Jim Gilchrist a copy.
Jim Gilchrist immediately began reviewing the files provided to him a few days before. It didn’t take long before he discovered the problem; someone was stealing, but it wasn’t Steve Eichler. As Jim studied the books he received a call from his webmaster, Linda Muller, informing him that she had been locked out of the website. When Jim asked her who could have done such a thing Linda replied, “Only Paul Sielski and I have access to change the password”. It was official; Barbara Coe and Deborah Courtney were up to something.
Jim Gilchrist called a meeting of all parties the next day in the hope of getting some answers; it was February 2nd, 2007.
The hijackers arrived together with copies of the altered documents in hand and immediately began to attack Steve Eichler; they had no idea that Jim Gilchrist had been reading the originals. The hijackers played to Jim and the other advisors trying desperately to convince them that Steve Eichler was embezzling funds and was trying to frame Barbara Coe for it. Jim allowed the hijackers to have their say before he confronted them with copies of the original documents. Then he fired them.
Deborah Courtney made one last ditch effort to blackmail Jim Gilchrist and Steve Eichler with threats of “taking down the Minuteman Project” if Jim didn’t buy her off. A lesser man would have written a big check and hoped she would go away, but not Jim Gilchrist. Barbara Coe went so far as to threatened Jim Gilchrist that if he didn’t side with them that they would make sure that the Minuteman Project would “crash and burn!” Jim Gilchrist took the moral high ground and replied, “I will not hang an innocent man on threat of defamation and extortion”.
And so, the war was on. The hijackers used Minuteman stationary to write up phony documents and used a scanner and laser printer to forge Jim’s signature. They submitted these documents to the Delaware Secretary of State’s office claiming to be the new board of directors of Minuteman Project; now they had the papers they needed to empty the bank accounts. The hijackers immediately changed the website; the front page had a post claiming that Jim Gilchrist had been fired and the contact page showed Marvin Stewart as the new President. The page also named Deborah Courtney as the Treasurer; a close friend of Deborah Courtney’s commented that making her treasurer was like making Michael Jackson the Dean of a boy’s school.
As Deborah and Paul Sielski used the mailing and email list to slander Jim Gilchrist, Marvin Stewart tried to gain support from the local Republican Party. The GOP was still sore at Gilchrist for running as an Independent against John Campbell in 2005; Stewart believed he could use the Party’s dislike for Gilchrist against him. However, a member/delegate of the California State Republican Party, Edwin R Williams had already warned the County Central Committee to stay clear of both sides until the matter could be sorted out in court. At the time Williams was reportedly working for the Minuteman PAC (a division of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps), but he had once served on the Minuteman Project advisory board as the Director of Special Projects. Williams had warned Mr. Gilchrist about Deborah Courtney in May of 2006 when he resigned from the Minuteman Project. When asked if he believed the advisers had the power to fire Gilchrist, Williams said, “they had no more power to fire Jim Gilchrist than they do to fire the Governor. It was open knowledge that the volunteers chose the title Director so that they could look like big shots, but Jim Gilchrist always had the final say in all decisions”.
At the darkest hour Jim Gilchrist’s webmaster, Linda Muller was able to convince the server to freeze the Minuteman Project website until Jim Gilchrist could fax the paperwork, proving his ownership. It took two weeks to convince the server to issue Jim Gilchrist a new password; by then a new website was created that featured a “Hijacker Update” page.
Paul Sielski was the hijackers “webmaster”, but he had few skills and was mostly incompetent. Paul didn’t have the skill to create a new webpage, so he had all of the hijacker’s new domain names point to his MySpace page. Although MySpace is a good online community site, it is a poor substitute for a real website. Paul Sielski spent his time “trolling for friends” on MySpace, writing disjointed hate mail and making threats on online forums. Paul Sielski was the mastermind of the internet attack and the leader of much of the behind the scenes planning. He used Vesterling to do most of the heavy work; he had to, although Paul had the knowledge, he lacked the skills. Fortunately for Paul, the hijackers were even less computer literate than he was. He convinced the hijackers he was accomplishing important tasks, while taking credit for Vesterling’s work, knowing that no one would ever know the difference.
Paul Sielski posted a badly edited recording of the February 2nd, 2007 meeting on his MySpace page (minutemenfortruth.com). Of course he edited out the part where Jim Gilchrist fired the hijackers and the part where Deborah Courtney became unstable and made insane threats to anyone loyal to Gilchrist. After studying this story for the past few months, I’ve come to the conclusion that Paul Sielski just isn’t very bright.
Another thing the hijackers didn’t know (except Deborah Courtney) is that Paul Sielski was a fugitive from the law and has a history of domestic abuse, fraud, spousal rape and battery. Paul was arrested and sent back to Maryland in July 2007, where he is awaiting sentencing and facing 20 years in Federal prison. You may notice that his MySpace page and the website Minutemenfortruth.com have not been updated since. So now the hijackers have no internet presence at all, except for the stolen email lists.
After the news of Paul Sielski’s arrest the hijacker’s attorney, Jim Lacey petitioned the court to be removed from the case. He would be the first in a long line of lawyers to flee the hijackers after getting to know them. Apparently the old expression, “you can get a lawyer to sue anyone for anything”, may not be completely accurate. Several months after Mr. Lacey severed his relationship with the hijackers he sat down and had a long discussion with Jim Gilchrist on the first day of the Western Conservative Political Action Conference (C-PAC). Mr. Lacey (Chairman of Western C-PAC), wanted to see for himself what kind of man Gilchrist was. By the end of the conversation, Lacey asked Gilchrist to be a featured Speaker and serve as a panelist on Western C-PAC’s immigration Caucus. In the last few weeks, Gilchrist and Lacey have become fast friends. Lacey has been arranging choice speaking engagements and introductions to key people for Gilchrist, prompting some Orange County Republican Insiders to whisper about a possible Mayoral or Congressional run for the Minuteman.
Despite the Cease and Desist order, Deborah Courtney is still spinning lies and spewing hate through her stolen email list. Her ineloquent name calling and hateful rants have become more and more bizarre over the last few weeks. She hasn’t yet learned that everything she writes has been forwarded to the Minuteman Project Attorneys who keep these letters on file. The funniest thing is she apparently doesn’t remember what version of “the truth” she had already sent out to the list; her story changes from email to email.
Marvin Stewart has been taking advantage of the people’s confusion over the rightful control of the Minuteman Project. He attempted to settle a lawsuit the Minuteman Project had filed against Compton City College out of court; the trouble was, Stewart didn’t file that lawsuit, Jim Gilchrist did. Once again Stewart was caught red handed committing fraud. Before this incident he had artfully avoided publicly violating the court order by calling himself, “the President of the Minutemen”, while having others introduce him as “the President of the Minuteman Project”, but now he couldn’t explain away the $9,000 he attempted to con from Compton College.
Lately even Barbara Coe has distanced herself from Stewart and Courtney. Barbara’s attack on Jim Gilchrist caused most of her supporters to turn their backs on her. Now CCIR is a shadow of its former self and the donations have dried up. After 20 years of taking credit for the work of others and raking in the money of well meaning patriots, Barbara Coe may be looking for a real job.
As for Jim Gilchrist, he and a few remaining advisers are trying to pick up the pieces of his shattered organization. The independent audit has returned Jim’s credibility, but the lawyer’s fees and court costs have put The Minuteman Project deeply into debt. To survive the Minuteman Project must restart fundraising efforts, rebuild their contact lists from nothing, and reconnect with the volunteers that helped Jim build the organization in the first place. That is just what Mr. Gilchrist plans to do. When reached for comment Jim stated, “This is far too important a cause to let greedy narcissists destroy it. We will move forward in this fight.”

IRS Approves Minuteman Project, Inc.
In an expected victory this week the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) granted the Minuteman Project, Inc. a 501 (C) (4) non-profit tax exempt designation, that organization’s president, Jim Gilchrist, announced today.
After a three-year review of the organization Gilchrist founded in 2004 the IRS concluded that there were no improprieties or irregularities that would prevent Gilchrist or his Minuteman Project organization from receiving the approval.
The approval concluded a long application process and came as what Minuteman legal counsel at Gordon & Rees law firm states “a great victory for Jim Gilchrist and the Minuteman Project, Inc. The non-profit status is retroactive back to May 5, 2005, the date Gilchrist originally incorporated the Minuteman Project, Inc. in Delaware.”
“The I.R.S. recognized the legal authority of only one director and one officer,” Gilchrist said.
Gilchrist holds all the offices and is the sole and only director with corporate authority, the group’s legal counsel explained.
Gilchrist has been under repeated attack for the past two years by disgruntled former volunteers who, he said, have relentlessly attempted to hijack and plunder an activist organization he created over four years ago.
“I think their goal was to get access to my organization’s public donations by whatever means it would take them to do that, including making false claims to the public that I used my organization to conduct ‘criminal activities’,” Gilchrist said.
“Would the IRS approve a person that they are investigating? Never;” stated Stephen Eichler, Executive Director of the Minuteman Project. “There can be numerous members of an advisory board of directors,” he continued, “but there is only one with authority and that has always been Jim Gilchrist. Even the most powerful tax authority in the country recognizes that.”
“We have worked long and hard hours for this approval and were delighted when we received it just a few days ago. Now, Mr. Gilchrist can aggressively move forward into the immigration law enforcement advocacy business that has been put on hold for so long because of all the organizational infighting.” said Carol Schaner, LLM, Minuteman’s lead corporate tax counsel with the law firm of Gordon & Rees, LLP in Newport Beach, Ca. “The approval has been long overdue. Today our confidence in the executive branch has been reassured.”
