Let 'em quit. Who cares if a dozen Generals quit?  Since they have just announced that they are "above" taking orders and executing them promptly, they need to be forced into retirement anyway.  They are no longer soldiers, they are politicians at best and cry-babies at worst.

I wasn't talking about the generals, I was commenting on some of the FR peeps. I didn't think I had to explain it, my mistake.

Sorry but I view this guy like Hitler. He has been telling us exactly what he is going to do.

Don't get me wrong - he's evil, and it's clear that he or his supporters are using the situation in Iraq, as well as their rush to nuclear weapons, as a statement that says "HERE WE ARE, WE WANT TO LEAD THE MUSLIM WORLD".

My point is, we don't have the troops to go in and hold ground, or to keep them out of Iraq and Afghanistan.

I think some people have the impression that we can win through airpower, and we can't. This isn't Libya, this is not the 1980s - Iran is already engaged in Iraq - we are capturing their agents, President Bush is saying they are, the Generals in the Persian Gulf are saying we are. We can blow up their power plants, their nuke facilities, their highways, their bridges, but at the end of the day, we'll have God knows how many Quds, etc. streaming into Iraq and Afghanistan, and that's a very real problem.

Believe me, I'd rather we deal with Iran now rather than later, but we have not had the increases in size that the military has needed since 9/11. I still don't know what the White House/Pentagon are thinking, but they saw what was coming - this war (against radical Islam) has been building for decades, and it's been clear that nations are trying to get nukes - 9/11 and then the invasion in 2003 should have been seen as a chance, no a necessity, to increase the size of the military.

OK I like what you wrote... It's just sad that we have to see a city go up in a mushroom cloud before we can do anything....

Let those fat a&%ed old Farts resign. We would not miss them one bit, and think of all of the retirement we would save.We should all go help them pack and let them find out how it is to move without the Gvnt picking up the tab. What do they think they would do for a living, there doesn't seem to be any real need, for some old geezer to stumble around and shine his good conduct medal. Don't get me started on those Political Leaches

Around 450. If they know who these guys are, they should be pastured NOW! If they are pre-disposed to refuse an order which has not yet been given, they are not fit to serve.

OK I like what you wrote... It's just sad that we have to see a city go up in a mushroom cloud before we can do anything....

We had two buildings fall, and others destroyed or damn near destroyed, and the White House and the Pentagon didn't see the need to radically increase the size of the military....

We've been at war with radical Islam since the first WTC attack in the early 90s, the 80s if you count the Marine barracks.

We finally reach a point where we can no longer pretend it's not happening, and we don't increase the size of the military. It's mind-boggling, but this is best saved for another day.

...where are you going to find troops to go in and hold ground?

Sorry for the confusion. I was responding to your statement above.
Silly me. I assumed you were rational.

Since we are already in Iraq, I understood that to mean going into Iran.

My bad...

My mistake. I read it as "in support" of the view.

Assuming that 450 is a good number, it approaches the number we had on active duty during World War II. The Army has so many that they are post commanders, normally a colonel's job in the other branches.

Since we are already in Iraq, I understood that to mean going into Iran.

Stop with the insults, quit avoiding the question, and tell us specifically where you think we have the manpower available to go in and hold ground in Iran. Iran is not Libya of the 1980s - airstrikes alone won't be enough. Iran is also not Iraq of 2003 - unlike Iraq which saw a large portion of their military capacity wiped out in the early 90s, along with ongoing embargoes - hell, Iran is exporting weapons.

I know you mean well, but let's be realistic - our leadership did not increase the size of our military after 9/11 and even after the invasion of Iraq, like they should have.

Probably a bit of overheard conversation in some Pub someplace. Just before the Yank orders his 3rd Stout and 2nd Scotch. Like:
"Jees, I'm just damn tired of this war. me and some other guys will walk if Bush goes any further with this. Hey, check out the puppies on that sweet over there."
We should ALWAYS look behind the Headlines. We know the libs are thick in the Newspaper business.

I'm not sure we actually do. Iran shares a border with Azerbaijan. I would imagine the Russians could supply them with whatever Iran needed if we were to really increase the voltage on them.

The toughest thing about Iran, is that its a country of young people with good heads on their shoulders under the thumb of some real whack jobs. I also believe Colombia is in that category under Chavez.
