It appears that we both like Katherine Hepburn and Cate Blanchett but disagree on Blanchett's interpretation of her role as Hepburn. Cate Blanchett's performance of the Katherine Hepburn role came across to me as an unnecessary caricature of the woman. I don't believe Hepburn's personality needed to be embellished as just playing the role spoke to her nature. Hepburn was just a small segment of Hugh's life and the film was about him, not her. If I were to cast Blanchett in that role I would tell her to concentrate on Hepburn the person, not to rely on enhancing the gimmicks. Thanks for the Johnny Depp film suggestions, I will give him a try.

And I don't think Blanchett embellished. That's the nub of our disagreement. My position is that Hepburn really was that big, that broad, that take-no-s**t-from-anyone. here was a time -- the time documented in "The Aviator" -- when she had trouble getting jobs because directors liked to work with more pliant talent.

If I could choose one Hollywood couple in history to have dinner with, it would be Hepburn and Tracy. No contest. They were both so strong-willed, quick-witted and sharp-tongued that half the fun would be just trying to keep up.

Hepburn was just a small segment of Hugh's life and the film was about him, not her.

The movie focuses on a segment of Hughes' life, from the late '20s to the late'40s or early '50s. And on an artistic level, I can't fault the decision to make Hepburn the dominant female lead -- she's just a more interesting character than Ava Gardner (though Kate Beckinsale did a great job in that role) or Jean Harlow.

Glad to do it. Not a bad film or performance in the bunch, and aside from Blow, I don't recall any objectionable language or content in any of them.
