"smooch"... appreciate your note!

in my younger years it would bother me to make some people "not like me"..I would be buisly jumping through evernone's hoops & got very frustrated & very confused.

but I have learned along life's journey that it is impt to be authentic. If people like you ... fine. If they don't... fine.

Hi Daisy.. I have not only not seen it, I have not even heard of it! It may have been at Cedar-Lee in NE OHio which is our "artsy" and independent theater..

just went to rotten tomatoes.. gave it a 15% (not too good)

It appears that we both like Katherine Hepburn and Cate Blanchett but disagree on Blanchett's interpretation of her role as Hepburn. Cate Blanchett's performance of the Katherine Hepburn role came across to me as an unnecessary caricature of the woman. I don't believe Hepburn's personality needed to be embellished as just playing the role spoke to her nature.

And I don't think Blanchett embellished. That's the nub of our disagreement. My position is that Hepburn really was that big, that broad, that take-no-s**t-from-anyone. here was a time -- the time documented in "The Aviator" -- when she had trouble getting jobs because directors liked to work with more pliant talent.

If I could choose one Hollywood couple in history to have dinner with, it would be Hepburn and Tracy. No contest. They were both so strong-willed, quick-witted and sharp-tongued that half the fun would be just trying to keep up.

Hepburn was just a small segment of Hugh's life and the film was about him, not her.

The movie focuses on a segment of Hughes' life, from the late '20s to the late'40s or early '50s. And on an artistic level, I can't fault the decision to make Hepburn the dominant female lead -- she's just a more interesting character than Ava Gardner (though Kate Beckinsale did a great job in that role) or Jean Harlow.

Thanks for the Johnny Depp film suggestions, I will give him a try.

Glad to do it. Not a bad film or performance in the bunch, and aside from Blow, I don't recall any objectionable language or content in any of them.

This is long, but please read....

Thanks to all who participated: I am pinging this to most of the thread participants.

I had several reasons for posting this thread

(1) Well, I like movies/Oscar Ceremonies & thought this deserved it’s own thread for supporters of Cinema – I am NOT good with live threads as I normally get caught up in the event & forget FReeping. I tried hard to do both this time.

(2) PING LIST: I am starting in March a MONTHLY Movie Thread(been talking about it for at least a year) & want to start a ping list. If you are reading this, you are on it. YOU CAN GET OFF VERY EASY… FReepmail or post here.

This monthly thread will be LIKE the one here. Supporters/enthusiast who want to know more, maybe decide what movies are worth their time this month etc. We will IGNORE the “you know who/what” trasher posters. We will NOT fight with them. I would like this thread to be upbeat & positive. If people want to fight they can go to the Border, Rudy, Creation threads. Of course great discussion will be encouraged but we wont be hosting the I hate movies, Hollywood, wont waste my money crowd at this thread.

(3) From this list I wanted to see movie enthusiasts who might be contributing writers/support to the thread. You will get a separate FReepmail if I thought you might fit. Each month this thread will contain movie reviews(current & classic); gossip; technical section for us to learn and it will evolve as we see the interest . If you don’t have a FReepmail by the end of the day, AND you would like to participate in reviewing movies, collecting gossip - please post here or let me know via FReepmail. I have noted the two people who are involved in film production & hope you can help in the technical aspects

I know of one person on this list who knows/does advanced HTML.. I wont name her but I am hoping she might participate also in some of the formatting each month. Any others? Any other ideas for us to consider?

What are your ideas for inclusion in a Monthly Movie Thread?

I see almost no movies (it's one of those postman's holiday issues), so I wouldn't be able to offer much to the threads. I'll be reading, though, and wade in if I spot some technical issue where my knowledge might be useful.

Oh, in one.....a woman became very volatile.....she was loud, and acting strangely, and the people with her were trying to get her to quiet down, but she wouldn't, then others around her were suggesting she be quiet (including us, as we were fairly close) finally....a movie employee was called.....she hit him and knocked him to the floor.....they got reinforcements....took her out, finally.

And, then, once, as an ad for I think UPS was on screen with the UPS guy running around.....SOMEONE came running down the theatre aisle.....jumped up on the stage, yelled something, and then ran across.....we never knew who it was, but it left us with an uncomfortable feeling.

We still go to movies occasionally.....but, would rather enjoy them in our OWN HOME!
