Picture an infinite row of water glasses, each filled with pure water. Now, along comes Satan with a jar of evil, black as India ink, and an eye dropper. He puts one drop in the first glass, two in the second, three in the third, and so on.
The first glasses will contain so little that it will be imperceptible to the naked eye. These are conservatives. Further down the row, he will be putting in so much that the evil completely displaces the water. This is the hard left. Between these two extremes, there where the water is muddy and ugly looking, those are moderates.
