THE MOST SWEEPING GUN BAN EVER INTRODUCED IN CONGRESS (by Dems, of course)

McCarthy Bill Bans Millions More Guns Than The Clinton Gun Ban

On Feb. 14, 2007, Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) introduced H.R. 1022, a bill with the stated purpose, "to reauthorize the assault weapons ban, and for other purposes."

McCarthy's verbiage warrants explanation. Presumably, what she means by "assault weapons ban" is the Clinton Gun Ban of 1994. Congress allowed the ban to expire in 2004 for multiple reasons, including the fact that federal, state and local law enforcement agency studies showed that guns affected by the ban had been used in only a small percentage of crime, before and after the ban was imposed.

With the nation's murder rate 43% lower than in 1991, and the re-legalized guns still used in only a small percentage of crime, reauthorizing the Clinton Gun Ban would be objectionable enough. But McCarthy's "other purposes" would make matters even worse. H.R. 1022 would ban every gun banned by the Clinton ban, plus millions more guns, including:

. Every gun made to comply with the Clinton ban. (The Clinton ban dictated the kinds of grips, stocks and attachments new guns could have. Manufacturers modified new guns to the Clinton requirements. H.R. 1022 would ban the modified guns too.)

. Guns exempted by the Clinton ban. (Ruger Mini-14s and -30s and Ranch Rifles; .30 cal. carbines; and fixed-magazine, semi-automatic, center-fire rifles that hold more than 10 rounds.)

. All semi-automatic shotguns. (E.g., Remington, Winchester, Beretta and Benelli, used for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defense. H.R. 1022 would ban them because they have "any characteristic that can function as a grip," and would also ban their main component, called the "receiver.")

. All detachable-magazine semi-automatic rifles-including, for example, the ubiquitous Ruger 10/22 .22 rimfire-because they have "any characteristic that can function as a grip."

. Target shooting rifles. (E.g., the three centerfire rifles most popular for marksmanship competitions: the Colt AR-15, the Springfield M1A and the M1 "Garand.")

. Any semi-automatic shotgun or rifle an Attorney General one day claims isn't "sporting," even though the constitutions of the U.S. and 44 states, and the laws of all 50 states, recognize the right to use guns for defense.

. 65 named guns (the Clinton law banned 19 by name); semi-auto fixed-magazine pistols of over 10 rounds capacity; and frames, receivers and parts used to repair or refurbish guns.

H.R. 1022 would also ban the importation of magazines exempted by the Clinton ban, ban the sale of a legally-owned "assault weapon" with a magazine of over 10 rounds capacity, and begin backdoor registration of guns, by requiring private sales of banned guns, frames, receivers and parts to be conducted through licensed dealers. Finally, whereas the Clinton Gun Ban was imposed for a 10-year trial period, H.R. 1022 would be a permanent ban.

Please be sure to contact your U.S. Representative and urge him or her to oppose H.R. 1022!

I think you nailed it.

And, those of us who do stand up, will be marked as "terrorists", and the sheeple will cheer our demise.

The dems might as well just admit that they want to discard the constitution instead of trying to pull off one piece at a time...at least it'd be honest...not that I really expect dems to be honest. Even their own supporters such as Geffen say they're amazing liars.

These bastarts won't stop until they confiscate all guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens and the rest remain in the hands of criminals.
This is their deliberate, but hidden intention.
Then the underclass will rise up and take whatever they want from the "oppressor class". And that is what the left really wants.

Let's see now, they say that they can't arrest and deport 10-20 million illegals because they don't have the manpower or the money and besides some of these folks are otherwise law abiding and helping the economy. Of course research shows that all of the above is untrue.

Now they want to turn 50-150 million otherwise law abiding citizens into felons and criminalize a God given right guaranteed in the Constitution. I guess they will find the money and the manpower to break down your door, incarcerate those contributing to the economy and confiscate and destroy your private property.

No one on FR supports Rudy because of his positions on abortion, guns, gays, and illegals...those that do support him in spite of them (I am a New Yorker, but I've been a fairly vocal critic).

But don't worry, I don't think Rudy is packing for the whitehouse just yet.

You know.. you're probably right... Reagan would have been trashed every time he leaned left. We'd have celebrated like mad when he fired the Air Traffic controllers, and pushed the commies into a corner, but where he gave in, we'd have trashed him.

Goes with the territory I guess.

This McCarthy broad, you may remember, is the 'Rat poster-girl for gun control. They use her for this kind of thing because she got into politics, supposedly, because her husband was murdered by a crazed gunman on a commuter train.

It follows, therefore, according to the Democrats' strange logic, that any McCarthy gun control legislation has the imprimatur of moral authority behind it, and anyone critical of it is a neanderthal barbarian who supports violent criminals. That's just the way they think.

Maybe this bill will wake the country up and stop letting the government pass anything they want.

Problem is that in Giuliani's New York, handgun permits were difficult to come by. Since they were issued by a city bureaucracy, they often required political clout to obtain. An individual may feel the "need" to protect himself, but the city government may have felt otherwise.

I think if any law like this does pass, a black market will thrive. Plenty of ammo to be had.

Please see my post # 131.

In fact, Ms. McCarthy is so beloved by the 'Rats and the Left that Barbara Streisand produced a TV biographical movie of her a few years ago. It was so biased that the role of the GOP incumbent she defeated, Dan Frisa (in real life a good-looking young man), was played by an doddering old fogy.

Bush veto THIS? Are you crazy? He's already stated he would sign an "Assault Weapons Ban".

He said he would sign an extension of the existing one. This is not a mere extension of the ban that existed from 1995-2005, so Bush's promise could hardly hold him to signing it.

I would submit to you that 11 September 2001 was as blatant and as "in your face" an attack on American soil as was 7 December 1941. More heinous, in fact, since it was not an assault on a military installation. Up until 1941 Americans saw the NAZI/fascist/Japanese imperialist threats as more the other guys problem. Even though those regimes were known dangers to Western civilization and democracy.

There is no doubt that the few have secured the privileges for the many, and still do. To paraphrase Winston Churchill: 'Never have so few done and given so much for so many and asked so little.'

As for the 'worthless scraps of human flesh', I'll need only submit for your examination the membership of DU.com; radical Leftist congresscritters, such as Murtha, Pelosi, Clinton, Kerry, Kennedy, et al. The likes of squalid vermin like Cindy Sheehan and the Westboro Baptist Church "congregation". The gun-grabbing and morally bankrupt likes of Sara Brady, HCI and the ungrateful squatters in NYC who infest the UN. Enemies within such as CAIR, the ACLU, the mainstream media, Ted Turner and newly revealed "Hanoi/Baghdad Jane".

Not including, from lack of want or appropriateness, those who refuse to secure our borders and allow more Americans to be killed per year by illegals than are killed by jihadists in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Personally, I've been tolerant over the years, believing that those in power are trying their best to secure our safety and freedom. Today I doubt they are. I doubt their sincerity. I doubt their integrity. I doubt their motives and their loyalty. I doubt the leaders of government have much of a handle on what goes on in the labyrinth of government bureaucracy. I doubt that they really care if they do......or could, even if they wanted.
