ACLU ex-president charged in child-porn case
THE WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | February 24, 2007 | Jerry Seper

Posted on 02/24/2007 6:21:55 AM PST by 3AngelaD

Federal authorities yesterday charged the former president of the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia, who serves as a leader of youth sports organizations in the state, with receiving and possessing child pornography.

Charles Rust-Tierney, 51, of Arlington, was named in a criminal complaint filed by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Alexandria and was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and Arlington County police...

Mr. Rust-Tierney, a former public defender in the District, was identified in court documents as having coached various youth sport teams in and around Arlington County...

ICE officials had no comment on the case. One agent said in a sworn affidavit yesterday that Mr. Rust-Tierney has subscribed to various child-pornography Web sites over the past several years.

The affidavit states that Mr. Rust-Tierney also admitted to an agent yesterday that he had downloaded videos and photos, which were found in a search of his home, from child-porn sites...

Speaking for the ACLU, Mr. Rust-Tierney was a leading proponent in the late 1990s for unrestricted access to the Internet, arguing before the Loudoun County Library Board that people would "continue to behave responsibly and appropriately while in the library" and that "maximum, unrestricted access to the valuable resources of the Internet" should be allowed...

Mr. Rust-Tierney also argued that parents should have the primary responsibility for setting rules for their children regarding Internet access, and that "older minors should have access to resources appropriate for their age group, even if such materials may be considered by some parents to be unsuitable for younger minors..."

Mr. Rust-Tierney's wife, Diann Rust-Tierney, is executive director of the D.C.-based National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.

She is looking out for her husband.

My response to his conviction would be, "Where's the rope?"

You want to know what is REALLY funny?

Do a Google Search for "Charles Rust-Tierney" and see what you get.

Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Plenty about his wife, who is into the anti-death penalty, but about him? Nothing.

Putting quotes around it gave me three responses.

Can anyone say "memory hole"? How about "non-person"? Funny how a fairly recent head of the ACLU would just vanish like that, eh?

What a complete hypocrite. When did the ACLU become the All Communist Liberties Union? A while back, it seems.

Since the ACLU defends NAMBLA and this former ACLU head was (allegedly) involved in child porn, he not only talks the talk but walks the walk as well.

He's no hypocrite.

It is really funny. No doubt he wants to ensure no one knows what he looks like, either, so as to avoid the whole run-out-of-town-on-a-rail, tar-and-feathers thing.

So the death penalty is bad, but violent child porn is okay?

I tried google for images. Nothing. You would think after his involvement in such cases as forcing the libraries to provide access to Internet porn and his present position as a leader of youth sports organizations there would be at least a photo of him somewhere.

It is amusing that when I do a Google Search for "Charles Rust-Tierney criminal or arrested" all I get is a bunch of propaganda about his idiot wife's advocacy against the death penalty. Not much on the perp and his ACLU prez legacy....an example of the MSM and why it must be deatroyed!

Try 'Charles M. Tierney' and you'll get a few more hits. I'm sifting through them even as I type.

In all seriousness, I only heard of the story on O'Reilly. The MSM are like the old Communist Pravda, covering up for their Communist leaders. In this case the MSM are covering up for their masters in the Democrat party.

And contrast this with Fox News reporting on then candidate Bush's non story of his ancient DUI arrest. That story almost cost Bush the presidency.

They are just looking out for themselves in case they get caught with a dead child.

These pedophiles pose a horrific danger to our children. They are not just in trailer parks but also among the wealthy. A University of Pennsylvania (now former) professor, Lawrence Scott Ward, 64, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty this week to charges he produced child porn and imported it into this country from Brazil. He was caught at Dulles airport with video footage of him having sex with a minor boy.

"Federal authorities yesterday charged the former president of the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia"

Right there in the first sentence... this guy is the former president of the Virginia chapter, NOT the national one.

Horribly sickening. I am not surprised that an officer of the ACLU was caught with horrific child porn.

I was surprised when I read about FBI analyst Anthony John Lesko, 44, entering an Alford plea on Thursday for sex with a girl beginning when she was only 9. He, of course, blamed the victim - said it was all her fault. At least he got jail time, which is more than some judges are willing to give even in the worst of cases.

I wonder if the ACLU will put up a huge defense for Charles Tierney.

"When did the ACLU become the All Communist Liberties Union?"

The moment it was founded -- by communists about 90 years ago.
