One case where the Veep may have made a difference was 1960--would LBJ have gone to the same trouble getting fraudulent votes in Texas for the ticket if he hadn't been on it?

I don't think Hillary will pick Obama...he doesn't help her. If she wanted a black VP, Colin Powell would be more helpful (if he would agree to run...he is nominally a Republican). But a black VP might distract the media from their primary task of hyping her candidacy, and might come across as overdoing it (no white males on the ticket). Vilsack or Bayh would probably help her more.
