And why would the machine not do just that? We on the right have little to show for principled opposition and fair debate.

Of course, maybe that was then. Now, they're desperate, and it shows. They may now think they need us, and they need to convince us, if they're going to win again. The problem is that they can't change their stripes and convince us, any more than they could convince us back then. They could browbeat and insult and scare, but not convince. And it seems to me that convincing is what I need, because I can't see any rational reason right now to vote for the left-mod-RINO wing's proposed standard bearers. The American public doesn't seem all that differently inclined.
