Duncan Hunter is the only one who would shut the door, let's admit that.

Mitt Romney is the only major Republican candidate who is willing to be tough on this issue.

Unfortunately, Romney doesn't cut it with the purists here.

Let's hope he would double-secret re-enforce it.

YES California is footing the bill for illegal immigrants, but I would say the problem for Californika is less with illegal immigrants and more about Socialism. If the People's Republic of Californika didn't have all the "safety net" programs, then illegals would be less willing to go there.

Mitt Romney is the only major Republican candidate who is willing to be tough on this issue.

Only if it's convenient and it's the issue "du jour".

Mitt does not cut it with me either. The guy was my Gov for 4 years and he was tough on nothing. He got tough on gay marriage 24 hours before leaving office. Gee! Think it may have to do with his run for prez?

But Mitt has the closest thing to Reagan hair, imo. He should be a shoe-in on thta alone, good-looking young fellar like him that... full of ideas and energy. ;-)

(and that's from someone who gets tossed in the "purists" pile and quite often, too..lol)

I just came for the Rudy in drag pics.

Rudy's been doing a lot of cross-dressing lately.

He's pretending to be a federalist on gun control but demanded that other states increase their gun control laws.

He says he is for a PBA ban that includes exceptions for the life of the mother yet he opposed such a ban that was passed during his tenure as mayor.

And he says he wants to crack down on illegal immigration even though he disregarded federal law and federal court rulings calling for NYC to end its sanctuary city policy. And he's in favor of amnesty as well, which we learned in the 1980s only INCREASES illegal immigration.

Duncan Hunter is my first choice, but I just don't see him getting any traction.

I'd like to learn more about Jim Gilmore.

While I'd prefer to see Mitt Romney at #2 on the ticket just to see if his conservative views are bonafide, I certainly trust him a lot further than McCain and Giuliani with illegal immigration as well as zipper control. On economic issues, Romney is so good I'd call him a Steve Forbes with a better haircut.

Republicans here will be appalled by this lack of understanding of California's illegal immigration crisis. This sounds like McCain all over again: obligatory acknowledgement of border control while ignoring the enormous costs of illegal immigration and gross violations of American law. This issue cuts across party lines. Californians---especially in San Diego---are fed up with footing the bill for healthcare, public safety, etc. (Do you know that 40% of all incarcerated illegals are in California---but we receive no assistance from the federal government or real border enforcement.)

A few years ago at the American Legislative Exchange Council held in Las Vegas, Giuliani was one of the speakers. Legislators from every state attended the conference. One legislator represented a district which is on the U.S./Mexico border in Arizona. That legislator represented people who were being overrun by illegal aliens pouring across the border. At the time, half of the illegal aliens who were streaming into the United States were using this legislator's district as their entry point as they were illegally breaking and entering the country. Also in his district were hospitals which had closed their OB/GYN and trauma centers because of the problems with illegal aliens. When Giuliani was finished speaking, this legislator asked him a question during the Q&A. The question was what Giuliani thought should be done about the border situation based upon the problems from his own district that this legislator outlined to him. Giuliani just blew the legislator off - giving him a brief, flippant response. Giuliani didn't care. How could a person who harbored nearly half a million illegal aliens in his city, protecting them from federal law enforcement, ever convince anyone that he cared about the problems caused by illegal immigration. He was part of the problem. The illegals would trample the border areas entering the country on their way to the illegal alien sanctuary of New York City.
