From what I have been told the mayor appoints the chair and twelve members. The two presiding justices of the appellare division, each appoints six. Deans of local law schools are appointed on a rotating basis. The committee is 27 members with fewer than half appointed by the mayor.

Even if it is a little under half on the committee under the Mayor's control, it seems they could appoint more that 2 non-leftists out of 60 if that was in fact a priority.

Ok for NYC, but not what I want for the nation.
