Giuliani is Best GOP Hope in Florida February 12, 2007
(Angus Reid Global Monitor) - Republican Rudy Giuliani holds an early lead in the Sunshine State, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute.
47 per cent of respondents in Florida would vote for the former New York City mayor in the 2008 United States presidential election, while 44 per cent would support Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.
In other match-ups, Rodham Clinton leads Arizona senator John McCain by four points, and holds an 18-point advantage over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. McCain leads former North Carolina senator John Edwards by one point, and Illinois senator Barack Obama by two points.
In 2004, Republican George W. Bush carried Floridas 27 electoral votes, with 52 per cent of all cast ballots. In 2000, weeks of recounts and court injunctions concluded in a 537-vote victory for Bush over Democrat Al Gore. Since 1972, the only Democrats to win the Sunshine State in a presidential election are Jimmy Carter in 1976 and Bill Clinton in 1996.
Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.
Polling Data
If the 2008 election for President were being held today, and the candidates were (the Democrat) and (the Republican), for whom would you vote?
Rudy Giuliani (R) 47% - 44% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R) John McCain (R) 43% - 47% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R) Mitt Romney (R) 34% - 52% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R) John McCain (R) 43% - 42% John Edwards (R) John McCain (R) 42% - 40% Barack Obama (R)
Reducto ad absurdium is entertaining, but hardly convincing.
Once again, Clinton vetoed two PBA bans. Bush signed it. That's 3000 or so children that are not going to be dismembered each year as a result.
No, it didn't.
Well, because most likely, the presidential race will be a choice between a GOP nominee, and Hillary Clinton. If you're ok with Hillary Clinton winning, then perhaps you shouldn't vote GOP. But otherwise....
What's idiotic about a 3d party if the 2 major parties have all but merged in terms of the views of their Presidential candidates on the conservative issues most important to me?
Because we have a winner-take-all (not proportional-representation) system, so the two parties are pushed to the center and compete for the vast majority of votes. In other words, either one or the other party will win, with probability approaching 1. In this context, 3rd parties are almost necessarily spoiler parties, and a vote for them is a vote you could have cast against the major-party candidate you hate more (presumably Hillary, in this case?), but didn't.
That's idiotic.
And your constant refrain that "it only will help Hillary win" is irrelevant. We (Conservatives) will be much better off, in the long run, with a Dem in the White House and ....
Ok, so you're indeed ok with Hillary winning then. Got it.
He wouldn't be winning Florida in the poll if that was true.
John
Sure I do..past is prelude.
Remember that election way back in November 2006? When conservative Republicans stayed home to teach RINOs a lesson and remind them what it feels like to lose?
They've already adjusted to losing the House and the Senate majorities. Do you think this crowd's going to be pulling the lever for Rudy Giuliani because they're afraid of losing the WH?
How do you plan on winning without them?
If this is the GOP's best hope I think we'd better get used to president Hillary (and frankly I don't think she'd be much worse)
Hmmm. Now, just how far off from the election were those polls? A few months. Not eleven.
And those were polls over House and Senate races. Not the leadup to presidential primaries.
Nice try, though.
Like how nominating the socialism-lite Bush in 2000, instead of true conservative Bob Smith, split the party and caused a "crash land". Got it.
Which is far more than what you have to support your opinions.
You still don't seem to notice that I'm not predicting Rudy will definitely win, just observing that these "train wreck" predictions are baseless. This gives me a far lower bar than you seem to think. The onus is on you to support your predictions, not on me because I'm not even really making any. Not that you've noticed.
You haven't established that because again, as far as you or I know those children are being aborted by other means anyway.
I'll do whatever I please with the language to make my own point... your obtuseness and defensiveness notwithstanding.
de·fec·tive /di-fek-tiv/ adjective
1. having a defect or flaw; faulty; imperfect: a defective machine.
2. Psychology. characterized by subnormal intelligence or behavior.
You have suggested those who are tired of choosing "between the lesser of two evils" and would seek another alternative are lacking in intelligence. My usage is an appropriate play on words.
pun /puhn/ noun
1. the humorous use of a word or phrase so as to emphasize or suggest its different meanings or applications, or the use of words that are alike or nearly alike in sound but different in meaning; a play on words.
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
The GOP lost largely because they lost the support of independents and conservative Dems. The GOP failed to redeem their control of government by being more interested in earmarks than in limiting the growth of government. Throw in the Abramoff and Foley scandals, and the loss is NOT the fault of conservatives, but of the party leadership.
You truly are shameless. PBA is a moral issue that crosses political boundaries. And all you can do is downplay the ban.
Well, perhaps not, in which case, they're idiots and deserve to have their idiocy pointed out to them, which is what I'm doing here.
At least this shows Rudy has a sense of humor and can laugh at himself, priceless qualities in any person.
Easy sparky. Some could say that you're the one doing the backstroke in media spin.
In winner-take-all elections I prefer victory by the party that would either advance the conservative principle more, or at least, would damage it less. I think it's clear that a Giuliani Presidency would be better than a Clinton Presidency in that regard (and I doubt that you sincerely disagree if you're being honest), in which case it would be idiocy to cast a "protest vote", and folly to pretend that doing so would somehow advance conservatism, if it came down to those two.
