I am curious about the why and how of the CIA request to Justice to investigate the leak and why Tenet issued his July 11,2003 Press Release admitting that the 16 words in the STOU address were a mistake and should never have been included in the text written for the President. The admission of a "mistake" just fed the flames of this non-incident.

Tenet could have done a lot more to smack down the inanities and misdirection introduced by Joe Wilson and the DBM, but even in what he released it should have been clear to any non-deranged readers (are there any in the DBM?) that the "Niger uranium" issue was quite secondary to pre-war intel assessments, and that Joe Wilson was leading the press and the entire country/world on a ludicrous diversion from the real issues.

"In October, the Intelligence Community (IC) produced a classified, 90 page National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iraq’s WMD programs. There is a lengthy section in which most agencies of the Intelligence Community judged that Iraq was reconstituting its nuclear weapons program. Let me emphasize, the NIE’s Key Judgments cited six reasons for this assessment; the African uranium issue was not one of them.
