Admirable ... but beside the point. Even if you were in there for murder and sentenced to death, the State has an obligation to ensure that you are not beaten, raped, or murdered while in its custody.
And they very well might. You could ask Irv Rubin about it, but it's a little hard after he "cut his own throat" and then just happened to jump off a railing in federal prison.

In reality it would not take much to target someone then gang rape them. Three guys with a heavy object could knock someone silly then do their business on him. A blanket could be used to restrain someone just as easily as a few t-shirts and a shank. All that has to happen is someone get caught looking the other way and they are done.
Now, if you are a loner then you are toast. Having a prison bud or two around you at all times will pretty much keep the risks to a minimum.

Don't you think the majority of men say the same thing? I know I would. But the cold hard truth is if they want it they can, and will take it. They will bring the whole bunch just to break you down. It leads to suicide as you can imagine. Now this largely depends on where you are locked up but my no means rare.

I doubt the inmates would give you the option of fighting to the finish. Bad Guys aren't known for gentlemanly duels, one-on-one.
If they wanted you bad enough, you would probably be bashed senseless by multiple attackers. Or sucker-punched from behind. They'd then do whatever they liked with you. And the next time it would be even easier for them because both of your arms might be in a sling.
