I know a real good guy who went to prison for the lies of his wife. He didn't deserve it. He also didn't deserve to get raped and killed there. He violaed no laws, but was convicted by a scumbag DA on the lies of his wife.

Tell that to the Duke LAX players that very nearly ended up in prison for a long time (might still do some time).

wow...are YOU ever naive!!!

and moreover, that does not justify a prison system out of control...and it is! Drugs, rape, gang fights. Wake up america. This is a disgrace.

Don't violate the law. Don't get thrown in prison.

And don't get a vindictive ex-wife who plays the "abuse" card.

Unfortunately, in the real world, it does not always work that way: http://www.innocenceproject.org/ Also, just think of prosectors such as Nifong.

Granted, it's probably not incredibly common, but it's not incredibly rare, either.

That's about asinine. Ever break the speed limit by 1 mph? Do you have shoelaces and a gun? Do you have bleach and ammonia in the same house?

Don't violate the law. Don't get thrown in prison.

That was a very boneheaded statement. The purpose of prison is not to provide fresh meat for rapists. It is a place to be punished. Secondly the United States has the highest imprisonment rates in the industrialized world. There are a lot of innocent people in prison too.

Lets face it if you make a prison a place where people learn and are forced to behave like animals then don't be suprised if they come out worse than when they went in.

"Don't violate the law. Don't get thrown in prison."

A guy here in Atlanta was just released after DNA evidence proved him innocent. He had been in prison 21 years.

I think you missed the points that (1) innocent people do get put in jail (f you don't believe this, it may be a function of the part of the country, or even the neighborhood, you're from), and (2) it is wrong to put anyone in a position where they're likely to be raped, lawbreaker or not.

"Don't violate the law. Don't get thrown in prison."

There are thousands of innocent people in prison in the US. DNA evidence alone has overturned hundreds of convictions of innocent people. While convictions of innocents is rare, it happens, and no one is completely safe. You have a better chance of being convicted of a crime you did not commit than of winning the lottery, or of being hit by lightning.

The problem with your point is that getting thrown in prison doesn't necessarily correlate with doing a crime. Christians are imprisoned in many countries for no crime or a faked one. Remember what Jesus said about those in prison.

Like the Duke lacrosse players?

I believe it was Ayn Rand that said (I'm paraphrasing) "Government can't control free men, therefore a government will make it nearly impossible to not break a law as a means of control."

You and I are just one pissed off ex-girlfriend or (soon to be ex) wife having an affair and scheming with her divorce lawyer, from spending time in Jail.

This type of garbage going on in prison is disgraceful for a so called civilized society. Who's really in charge in these prisons?

Don't violate the law. Don't get thrown in prison.

That's the funny thing about our hyper-bureaucracy... there are few people left in the nation who have not violated some edict from our beloved leaders. No citizen can guarantee that they have filled out their taxes with 100% precision (even the IRS itself cannot give consistent answers to basic questions)... if you have enough dollar bills in your pocket, you may have enough residue to earn a cocaine possession charge... heck, spanking your child can now be interpreted as child abuse.

Then ask the Duke lacrosse players or ex-husbands of particularly vindictive women about how facing this kind of thing despite being innocent.
