Do we WANT a President who wins California?
A candidate that can't compete in the blue states isn't going to win. The Republicans can't go in with the only hope based on defending the 2004 electoral map and set the Democrats up to zero in on one or two states.
Yes, Ronald Reagan won California.
A Republican candidate that wins there = landslide and his coat tails = a Republican House.
I'll take a win in CA and everywhere else other than the (hopeless District of Columbia).
I suppose we'll have to hear a lot of people on this site argue "We have to win the election even if it costs us our right to bear arms."
Our last popular President came from California and he was not conservative when he was governor of California, he had to govern according to the State which was already more liberal than the rest of the nation. What makes us think Rudy wouldn't be more moderate when he had the whole country to consider instead of uber-liberal NYC?
Nowadays, no.
Although Reagan carried CA twice, it was a different state then.
