Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, still basking in his can-do post-Sept. 11 image, got a rousing welcome yesterday from Republican activists searching for a presidential candidate who can win in California.
No Republican presidential candidate has carried California since the elder George Bush did in 1988, and no one has even run a competitive race in the increasingly Democratic-leaning state since then.
Republicans are hopeful they have prospects in the large 2008 field who can reverse the trend by combining liberal and conservative stands that has proven so successful for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The popularity of the governor shows that you can take the positions that he holds and win in California, said Duf Sundheim, outgoing Republican state chairman. I think Giuliani has the same opportunity.
As for Giuliani, backers say his record on reducing crime and taxes in New York should give conservatives plenty to like. He was introduced to the convention yesterday by businessman Bill Simon, the 2002 Republican nominee for California governor who once worked under Giuliani in the U.S. Attorney's Office in New York.
Simon said that as mayor, Giuliani cut taxes 23 times and reduced the city's murder rate by 67 percent. That is a record that as a conservative Republican, I can heartily endorse, he said.

Why would the government NEED a list of all the guns an individual might own?.....if not so they can come to collect them some day?
This is a very big issue with me, but one I think we could influence Rudy on. Particularly since the advent of "Katrina" and the violence that ensued. As Republicans, we would have more influence over him than we ever would over Hillary. Rudy has already backed down to the extent that he says "it is a state issue", but even that is not far enough for me.
I have been sending his campaign emails and letters. I would urge other concerned Republicans to do the same.
They do and you can spin like a top, but it will do absolutely nothing for you.
"Do you make weather predictions based upon the outcome of Ground Hog Day, The Farmer's Almanac, and sunspots?"
You're one to talk. Your entire basis for saying Giuliani can win New York is based on some conversations with a few friends in New York. How many millions live in the state of New York? How many do you know? What is the difference in that number? Polls are something at the very least.
Hillary Clinton may be a carpetbagger, but she still has won STATEWIDE in New York twice now. New York is a lost cause.
WORST VIABLE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE EVER
I don't spin. I told you they need a license. I told you NYC doesn't issue them unless you're the mayor's good buddy. Do you understand that? I told you FReepers that lived in NY were denied renewal of their licenses. For no reason, under Rudy G. They had there guns confiscated and melted down. Do you understand that? If they refuse to issue the license, your SOL.
a) Premises License -- Residence or Business.
This is a restricted handgun license, issued for a specific business or residence location. The handgun shall be safeguarded at the specific address indicated on the license. This license permits the transporting of an unloaded handgun directly to and from an authorized small arms range/shooting club, secured unloaded in a locked container. Ammunition shall be carried separately.
Come on, NP. If you have info on him, back it up! If not, quit smearing the guy.
If you want to disagree with his positions, that's fine with me.
For me, the War on Terror is a big issue. In my state, most Dims, even, realize that is tantamount. Even they have no confidence in anything the Dims are offering.
Since you fail to understand what I'm taking about, let me explain it, at an even simpler level.
No matter what he says, or is what said for him, Hunter needs at least 100 million dollars to ever begin to start out. He won't get anywhere near that.
Wall Street ( in the generic sense ) won't donate. Business won't either.
The people who go to Davos aren't the ones you should even be discussing. There are lots of monied Americans who don't go there/be,long to that circle, but they DO support political candidates. They also work for them and get their friends to donate and support candidates.
Without money, without backing, without a great team and staff in all the states, but especially in all of the front loaded primary states, NOW, without name recognition, reputation, standing, charisma, and a dour appearance as well as delivery, he is going nowhere.
ROTFLOL
Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I want to win. I want to keep the damned Dems out of the White House and win back seats in both Houses.I want to NOT leave our troops stranded, nor do I want to pull them out; leaving the Middle East to implode in Islamonazi chaos.
I also don't want to pin my hopes on some nobody Congresscritter that you people are falling all over, without knowing anything about him, but what's on his website, or those dreaming of some phantom Conservative great white hope to make a deus ex machina entrance amid misty smoke and cymbal clanking.
Would you like it, if I decided to post all kinds of things about you, that I can dream up and claim that they are true? WOULD YOU? I bet that I can even get other people to tell me what they think of you and post that in the bargain. But that would be silly. Take heed of this remonstrance.
One FREEPER, ONE said that he lost his guns. Do you know how many N.Y.C. FREEPERS there are here? Many and not another has ever said that their guns were taken away.
And even IF that stuff or a link to it was posted, some wouldn't believe it.
When I first stated posting to FR, my posts were an embarrassment, to say the least, because I didn't know how to make a paragraph and nobody to tell me how to do so on a WebTV. I therefore tried to keep my posts small.
I'm not "smearing" anyone; unlike others here and I'm saying that YOU are "smearing".........just that others are and I'm not.
