IRAN has built "suicide" drones capable of attacking US naval ships and forcing them to leave Gulf waters, said a Revolutionary Guards commander quoted by the semi-official news agency Mehr.
"We have built birds without passengers (drones) that can carry out suicide operations on the US Navy, at any depth if necessary, to make them leave the region in disgrace," said Ali Shoushtari, deputy commander of the Guards' land forces.

No doubt remotely flown by
ex-Turkish Air Force pilots.

Agreed, it's a threat and one I take very seriously because my son is there.
But you have to give it to the Iranians, when they issue a threat they prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that English is not their second language.

Now might be the right time...
Actually, the second the hostages stepped foot on U.S. soil back in 1979 would have been the right time!

Uh,...... didn't the Japanese try that in WWII without any success??
There were successes but they ran out of recruits quickly.

Well... actually.... they're having a bit of a problem with the whole 'takeoff thing'. You have to launch them by having some guy hold one over his head and run off a cliff. Thus, the name.

And then there are Revolutionary Guards pilots that would gladly pilot an airliner into a CVN if they could.
The navy might be hesistant and wait too long to shoot after what happened to the Vincennes and Iran Air flight 655 back in 88'.
At least the Iranians might think that...

The British had a 'special' project during WW2 using bats and incendiary bombs -- the bats would be released over Germany and disperse and hide under building eaves and then the incendiaries would ignite and set numerous destructive fires. Unfortunately the building containing the hundreds of thousands of collected bats caught fire and put an end to the project.
We shall see how effective any such 'grasping at straws' by Iranians fares against the US military. A general attack will likely wipe out most of the Iranian Command/Control/Communications systems and most of their military capacity in the first day of the 'intervention' followed by a thorough destruct of all of their nuclear facilities.
Hopefully the Iranians themselves will take the opportunity to rise up and overthrow the hated Imam tyrants and take back their country from those bent on national suicide.

Somehow I don't see 'em getting past this:

More likely old Ali should have said "We have bought birds" and added "from Russia and China".

It's suicide because as soon as it is launched the operator is killed by an effective and battle tested munition stamped made in the USA.

yes they do, compliments of China.

If it was the exercise I remember, the Commander of the attacking forces was severely reprimanded for not following the rules. He actually used some brain power and destroyed
the defending fleet...

I never thought an unmanned plane could commit suicide??????

Do you believe that the exercises were demonstrative of the USA's capability?Yes. I think that attack by suicide boats and Silkworm-like missiles will be sufficient to threaten US warships (as well as Arab shipping) in most of the Persian Gulf, with a long term denial of the Straights of Hormuz. That could potentially mean the crippling or loss of an aircraft carrier in a worst case (but not at all inconceivable) scenario.

And after that I wonder how big the crater will be sitting where the drone was launched.
