"Austin now operates about 4,800 vehicles, most of which use diesel fuel or gasoline. Starting immediately, replacement vehicles will be hybrids or those that can run on biofuels. The total cost of a typical midsize sedan, including fuel and maintenance, is 45 percent less than a hybrid, according to a city analysis."

ARGH! Why are you pinging me this??? Don't you know that Austin is only one hour from me and I've already got veins popping on my neck???

;o) Like everyone in Austin is getting a new Hybrid. Yeah.

I WORK, in Austin, but moved out of the city limits in 1983. When the city threatened to annex our area in 1989, we started looking further out and moved in 90.

Believe me, there are a lot of people driving the hybrids here. They actually have enough power to drag race with loaded dump trucks and city buses. I wonder if any of the leftover hippies ever thought that there are power plants using natural gas, coal or other fuel to recharge the batteries on most of the hybrids.
