Nobody here thought Iran would take getting kicked out of Baghdad lying down did they?
All the assets are in place for Iran's come-uppance.
The media crowing about the shoot-downs lays the political groundwork here at home.
Bush doesn't care who likes him, but he wants to avoid impeachment proceedings.
Patience.
These are only the opening moves of the final dance.

Not a lot new here, old tactics actually. Tactics used years ago by Iran in Lebanon. Only then it was the Navy with lost aircraft.
4 Dec, 1983 a A7D was shot down over Lebanon by SA7 MANPADS firing as a 'battery'. Multiple SA7s, launched together, will overwhelm even a good flare system.
From the AU foreign minister - "And they can be bought reasonably cheaply. The cost of a first generation Russian-made SA-7 on the black market is said to be only around US$5000." One would imagine that the finger puppets in Iraq greet a 'discount'.
The cost of a Chinook (CH47F) is about $32M. The cost of lost crew - beyond measure.
The cost of not learning from past loses?
You decide, quite literally.

Good points regarding the G/A weapon systems most likely being used.
Hopefully our Army will quickly come up with some reliable solutions similiar to what you suggest.
