I will support Rudy in 2008, because the country is at war, we are facing an insidious threat, and it is imperative that we defeat it. No Dem recognizes this, and there is no other Republican WHO CAN WIN the general election.

To my good friends here, who feel they cannot support Rudy because of positions he has taken on the issues important to social conservatives, specifically abortion and gay marriage..while I completely agree with your views on these issues, I would suggest to you that it will be a little difficult to hold next year's massive pro-life demonstration in DC if the mall is contaminated by a dirty bomb. It will be hard to demonstrate against the UN, if all of mid-town Manhattan is contaminated in a NBC attack.

Lincoln suspended habeas corpus in order to preserve the Union. FDR rounded up American citizens of Japanese ancestry because of fear of terrorism. We won those battles, then the wars, and THEN we fixed the mistakes we made. But the nation still existed, imperfect, yes; but still far better than any other place on earth.

People, the terror, the enemy we are facing..the threat to our way of life, our very existence, well, nothing is more important than that. We can't fight that kind of a two-front war...for now.

Rudy has all but said that in looking to appoint justices like Scalia and Roberts...he will not be advancing any liberal social agenda through the courts.

For Republicans, there really is no other choice.

So you say. And even before the primaries you're trying to sell the Republican Party on settling for a social issue lib. NO THANKS!

Rudy has all but said that in looking to appoint justices like Scalia and Roberts...he will not be advancing any liberal social agenda through the courts.

Just more words. You can't promise that any more than Rudy can. "Strict constructionist" is the phrase I keep hearing. Look up the definition and apply it to all of the previous appointments Rudy's made. NOT ONE!!

For Republicans, there really is no other choice.

Not a single vote in a single primary has been cast, and you say that?

Pure, unadulterated BS!

"For Republicans, there really is no other choice."

I appreciate your post and the logic that you use. However, it is way too early to conclude that there is "no other choice". Let's wait and see what happens between now and the next few months. I will be open to voting for Rudy in the general election, but you should consider being open to supporting someone else in the primaries who will be both a good social conservative and a good war president. Let's not decide now that Rudy is the only Republican that is capable of doing this.

Excellent points, Ken...

Wow, we do have "twin" conclusions. I just cannot put anything above security in 2008. I know of many conservatives that feel the same.

We have had a pro-life President for 6 years now, guess what, abortion is still legal. I would love to look for a more conservative candidate, but he/she has to be able to win!!! So far Rudy seems to nudge them out in that race. A lot could change in the next year, and I am not cutting off my options, and to tell the truth, if Condi would run (I know, not likely), I would probably jump off the Rudy bandwagon, but for today its Gulliani08 for me.
