School years are about 180 days - but required teacher work days make the year longer. Depending on the system the total contract days can be from 196 - 205 - 235 - or 255. The longer contracts are for the special education teachers that are hired to do ESY services. A typical 'in the classroom' teacher is probably about 200.

We do not get paid for holidays or summer breaks, we are paid for our contract days which is kind of misleading. If I say I only have to work 200 days, then it would seem I should have 80 or more days to work in the summer, but our year is broken up with breaks. The working time in the summer is about 8 - 10 weeks.

Some do choose to work during that time, some take classes, myself I watch softball games.

I love to go to things for my students sometimes. The last 4 weekends I've gone to at least something for my students. About once or month, I go to a church service where one might have a part in. Those are my favorite ones. :)
