With rare exceptions, I don't watch television. It's like having a spam blocker in life. In discussions about pop culture, I feel both hopelessly left out and insufferably intelligent.

When a complaint like this comes along, I am bemused. What did we expect of the trash merchants at American Idol, uplifting spiritual values? Donations to Heritage Foundation?

I got criticized for saying that while I've never seen "American Idol," I understand the premise (it's really nothing more than a prolonged talent show) and have no interest in ever watching it.
