Let me try to dope this. Law and Order is a television program. Are we good so far? It must be a popular program. This Fred Thompson person is associated with this program. He is probably an actor -- ? He plays conservative roles -- ? He is popular and very well known except to people who never watch television.

Pretty good credentials. Actors are smarter than Democrats unless, of course, they are Democrats.

Thompson also played the Navy captain in "Hunt for Red October" which despite the presense of Alex Baldwin was a better movie than "Bedtime for Bonzo."

The last actor we elected POTUS worked out just fine.

I honestly didn't know who the guy was!

The Hunt for Red October was a winner -- most thanks of all to Tom Clancy. Baldwin performed well. (I do not mind liberals being actors. Would we ever get to eat a cheeseburger if liberals were doing the burger flipping? :-) )

I have never watched an episode of Law and Order, the Sopranos (except for a few minutes), CSI Las Vegas or (gulp) 24! Oh, I will someday. Probably. Hey, I missed The Sound of Music until this century. One of these days, if a rerun of Seinfeld is on, I'll take a peek as I walk by. And then keep walking.

While the Schindler family fought to keep Terri, I entertained too many people who spoke about the separation of powers and that no court or executive should have been told anything by any legislature during Terri Schiavo’s demise. While I knew how and why disagreed in this case, I could sincerely understand the position these companions took. I entertained fools, or at least foolishness.

This weekend, between remembering Terri and hearing Mitt Romney’s comments on Sunday, I could see perhaps the demise of both constitutional balance and a presidential campaign. Mitt Romney said that he thinks “it's probably best to leave these kinds of matters in the hands of the courts. I generally think that it's not a good idea for courts to legislate. Nor is it a great idea for legislatures to adjudicate in a specific circumstance.” I had heard this before.

Mitt Romney and all my friends who have argued on his side are not only wrong in this case, but their thinking could sink a fair presidential candidate.

Wagglebee, I suspect the real numbers have crept up as well, although under the surface of visibility. I suspect this cloud on permissiveness masks a larger number of times the doctors and medical help sort of let people slip quietly away proactively or benignly, when otherwise it would have been noticed.
