I don't know about anyone else, but I am still waiting for Michael Schiavo to make a correction on his blog about what "actually" took place in Colorado when he went there (to the debate) to supposedly ask Congresswoman Musgrave one question and she and her staff supposedly tried to have him removed. He called it, "My unreal night in Colorado - with radio link" (Thu Oct 26, 2006 at 08:05:14 PM PST). I'll say (from what I read) that it was his "unreal night".
As I said before in "Standing up and Admitting a Mistake: Not Schiavo's Style?", if four uniformed officers were around my seat, I would have some idea of what was going on. I certainly wouldn't be sitting in "duh mode" to only be told later of what took place right there around me, as Michael suggests he was. If Michael's account is realistic -- his response and reaction is not. Nor is his response appropriate now that he has "learned" what he was "allegedly told" is not what took place. One would think if he can't get the words out that he was mistaken, he could at least have removed the inaccurate entry from his blog.
He has done neither.
I'm also still waiting to read about, "Also, maybe tomorrow I'll post about my election-eve rally with Bill Clinton in Florida." (A real election impact by Michael Schiavo, Thu Nov 09, 2006 at 10:40:34 AM PST). Indeed, I would love to read that story by Michael, since I read it was not possible. Not if he was implying it was the Bill Clinton that is the former President of the United States. Will be interesting to see what he says about that if he ever does.
If Michael couldn't get it straight what happened at the Musgrave debate or even if he spent election-eve with former President Bill Clinton -- do you suppose he might have gotten Terri Schiavo's wishes mixed-up as well? (He does claim to have a bad memory from what I read.) Makes one wonder. At least makes me wonder. Whatever...
I'm still waiting for the corrections if not the explanations!

AMARILLO, Texas, Mar. 31 /Christian Newswire/ -- Fr. Frank Pavone, National Director of Priests for Life, commented today on the murder of Terri Schiavo two years ago this day.
He became a familiar figure in the lengthy ordeal. A friend of Terri's family, he was one of the few people on her visitors' list and therefore able to access her room.
"Terri's case remains shrouded in massive ignorance. This was not about end of life decisions or removal of medical treatment. Nobody is obliged to use every medical treatment to keep themselves alive. But Terri was neither dying nor on life support," Fr. Pavone explained. "She was brain-injured, and therefore some thought she was disposable. The cause of her death dehydration was deliberately introduced. That's called killing. While there is such a thing as a useless treatment, there is no such thing as a useless life."

Once again the topic comes up about futile lives. This is partly why we focus time and again on the Texas Futile Care laws, because they have mixed the terms on the meaning of "futile". To the innocent, it may be supposed to mean that we should consider when care might be futile, like a bandaid for a severed arm. But they have interpreted it in a not-so-innocent way as referring to the precious life itself as being the futile object.
So often our detractors redefine terms of human physical condition to minimize the presence of the human soul.
JohnSullivan, many of us veterans of Pinellas Park are here on FreeRepublic and we keep up the fight for Terri's Legacy and for other innocents abused in like manner. And, we do it on a daily basis. We have defended against the trolls and detractors regularly knowing they will attack us in the name of Our Lord just as did the trolls at Pinellas Park. There, too, they were few in number, but they shouted louder than their very presence there as well.
Despite the rants of the those who hate us and those who are stung in conscience by our topic, we continue as a part of the Pro-Life FreeRepublic and that for which it stands. Welcome.
With reluctance I ping this thread for those interested. I am reluctant because the thread has attracted swarms of the usual detractors plus many who think we should "move on." That we are still at it two years later brings out an unusual fury in these detractors a fury they are not willing to let "move on" themselves.
They and some well-meaning claim the topic of Terri has rent much of FreeRepublic asunder and has caused divisiveness. If it has done so, while exposing left wing sympathizers as having hidden under the banner of "conservative," so be it.
May we all remember that those who rail at us for our simple acts of defending innocents against murder, by the State or complicit individuals, are railing against the Spirit guiding us. Some are resentful that the event of Terri mocks Easter. May they recall that Easter unfolded as the murder of Terri developed in lockstep. It was this murder cheered on by detractors that echoed Easter.
On the night of Terri's funeral, I posted a few observations and a lot of pictures of what I had seen in the days of Lent, the Triduum, and the First Sunday of Easter. They are here: http://www.endlesswonder.com/terrischiavo.html
Many times I have wanted to go in and update or even expand upon what was there, but I decided to just leave it as a memory frozen in time of one of the most disgraceful moments in our history when just about everyone let us down, and worst of all, Terri's death

White Rose..
"We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will give you no rest."
In our article, we demonstrated that Sanger's own words suggested the opposite. In her 1922 book, The Pivot of Civilization, Sanger wrote, "Every feeble-minded girl or woman of the hereditary type, especially of the moron class, should be segregated during the reproductive period." For men, Sanger recommended the "policy of immediate sterilization." In other writings, Sanger referred to some members of humanity as "human weeds."

"Resolve be the firmer, heart be the braver, courage be the greater, as our strength wanes." -- lines from "The Battle of Maldon"
I had my camera but the battery went soon after I took a few pics and I just never took the time to do something about it. LesforLife has quite a few photos and the media had done plenty of pics of "right wing terrorists" like FV and me.
Bobby and his family shone like stars in the dark as pillars of strength and grace, their presence keeping in check the frustrated and angry lesser types like myself. They are a family to emulate.
Did you find yourself in this batch of photos? I didn't catch a glimpse, but that isn't saying much. It was hard for a "stay-at-homer" to know what to look for, where.
I did not see all the thumbs but did not see myself. But I did recognize many of the scenes and was present when the pics were taken, especially with Msgr and his gatherings.
No offense to the photographer, but a lot of them were grainy or dark or had distant, undiscernable subjects -- more interesting to me for backgrounding than for one who was there and saw it all.
Yeah, the visitors -- FINOs, Freepers in name only -- blame the rest of us for causing the trouble. They come back again and again with jeers and taunts and self-congratulations, but nary a fact that one can get one's teeth into. What they peddle for "fact" or "science" has been refuted and debunked a dozen times, yet they never catch up.
Their purpose is ever and again to disrupt. And in that, you have to wonder if their consciences bother them. Is that why they keep coming back? They have unclean hands. They were the lynch mob. Somewhere inside their shells they know it is wrong to kill an innocent woman. The men among them should have been trained to protect the weak and vulnerable among us, especially a helpless woman. Instead they took obvious delight in kicking her while she was down. What happened to their manhood? Their heart and soul must groan at their cowardice and their shame.
I seem to recall an article showing these types of people supporting Michael Schiavo. Do you remember that? I believe they even issued a statement on that. FINOs have their friends I guess.

Offhand, no. Of course there have been scads of articles. Perhaps if we can get more specific, it might tweak the right memory.
The people Michael himself turned to, in his political debut, were liberal Democrats associated with the pro-abort and right-to-kill movements. He enjoys little sympathy except from people of that view. They trust him. Nobody else does.
Michael was FURIOUS that the feds tried to butt into his state of Florida-approved murder of his wife. The Democratic National Committee picked up on Michael's rage and spun it out in the last election cycle. It's actually quite a good conservative issue, as a generality. Nobody is happy about the feds butting into private business (except the same liberal Democrats). In the instance, however, it was the state government that was violating Terri Schiavo's rights, and it was the feds' duty to try to restore her rights. "States rights" was no defense for Greer exceeding his lawful authority.
Me, I'm not fussy whether it's the state government or the federal government or the local sewer district government that tries to kill me. Stop them!
Nice folks, but I don't want them joining Free Republic. They want to (quote) "slay, annihilate, exterminate, massacre, fight and behead" anybody who doesn't agree with them. Not good forum manners! You'd almost be tempted to call them trolls.
I think pretty much without exception the FReepers who were cheering for Michael's "right" to kill Terri are the same ones who are now trying to convince us how "conservative" Rudy Giuliani is.
One can hardly the same for "their" last candidate, the suave, suntanned, gutless Charlie Crist. Shrillery has more testosterone than Charlie.
It's all politics as usual, scheming to stick the enemy camp with the worst candidate. WE wouldn't do anything like that but we all do LOVE Algore running as a Green, don't we? :-)
Actually, I have more respect for him than I do for McCain, but that sure isn't saying much :-)

Saturday, March 31, will mark the two-year anniversary of my sister Terri Schiavo's death by dehydration. Not a day passes that my family does not think of my sister and relive the horrific images of her needless and brutal death at the hands of those who deliberately set out to kill her.
As hideous as it was, the truth is, long before Terri's case made headlines, the removal of basic care food and water was becoming commonplace. It continues to happen every day across our country oftentimes in cases, like Terri's, where the patient does not suffer from any life-threatening condition.
Much of the problem that exists stems from a blind acceptance of misinformation that has moved us from a firm belief in the sanctity of life to a "quality of life" mindset, which says that some lives are not worth living.
This shift, what I call lethal bigotry, began with the medical community, has infiltrated our judiciary and is taking over our nation. People are making decisions in place of God, while even many Catholic leaders remain silent despite the Church's teaching and the pope's constant reminders that God alone is the arbiter of life and death.
The sad fact is we have become a nation that spends billions trying to find the perfect body, while ignoring the condition of our collective soul; where altruism seems to be a thing of the past, and moral relativism has become a bona fide religion.
Combined with a popular media selling the notion that killing people in certain conditions is an act of compassion, one can understand why people with disabilities are in danger.
My sister's case is a perfect example. Look how the popular media presented Terri's story, abandoning any attempt at objective or ethical reporting in their rush to justify her death. In an effort to dehumanize Terri, they repeatedly reported she was in a coma, brain dead, a "vegetable" and that the autopsy proved she was in a persistent vegetative state, all of which are patently false.

.............................
THIS WEEKEND marked the second anniversary of Terri Schiavo's death. It is widely asserted by the mainstream press, liberal activists, and some in the Democratic party that those who argued for congressional action in her case were not only wrong to do so, but acted without any reasonable justification. Quite to the contrary: The circumstances surrounding Terri Schiavo's death demonstrate that reforms are needed to protect persons like her in the future.
In such situations, issues of life and death are involved. Yet unlike the cases of death row inmates, those in Terri's position are now likely to receive only superficial review combined with inadequate safeguards. An overview of the events provides the key. There are two questions that must be addressed to reexamine the Schiavo case properly: First, did Florida interpret its laws correctly? Second, what did Congress actually do when it got involved?
Under Florida law, the case's central issue was what end of life decision Terri Schiavo have made if she were competent. A decision to end life-sustaining measures needed "clear and convincing" evidence that Terri would have preferred that option. This standard requires less than the criminal law's "beyond a reasonable doubt" standard, but demands more than the evidentiary "preponderance" standard generally applied in civil cases. Controlling Florida case law at the time required that evidence meeting the standard must produce "a firm belief or conviction, without hesitancy, as to the truth of the allegations sought to be established."
~Snip~
Notre Dame law professor O. Carter Snead argues powerfully that the Florida courts "abandoned" their "clear and convincing" standard, thus making it impossible "to have any confidence that Mrs. Schiavo's actual intentions were honored." Snead says further that Judge Greer applied the standard "in an unrigorous and unreliable manner " while relying on evidence that constituted "a veritable parade of every species of presumptively unreliable statement long rejected by courts across the nation called upon to adjudicate end of life disputes."
It is difficult to maintain that Judge Greer correctly applied the clear and convincing standard, and the appellate court's review can only be described as cursory. Realizing that decisive legal errors remained uncorrected, the Congress attempted to obtain an expeditious federal court review. That action represented the kind of fail-safe protection liberals usually favor--a court critique. But not this time.
Presidential candidate Mitt Romney recently reiterated the "accepted wisdom," stating that the case would have been better left to the courts. Romney seemed to be implying that Congress tried to legislate the case's outcome. Not true: Congress merely sought an emergency review in the courts. Legal scholar, Michael Paulsen, described the congressional enactment's function as being "very similar to what the federal habeas statute does."...........................

A seven-year legal battle over the fate of Terri Schiavo, a brain-damaged Florida woman whose 2005 death spurred a change in federal laws on life-support treatment, resulted in Americans taking a closer look into their own healthcare futures.
Locally, Barbara Hunt, community relations representative for United Hospice in Beaufort, will lead a free program the first Monday of each month from 10-11 a.m. at the Lowcountry Medical Group community room to teach about Five Wishes, a booklet that helps people write a living will outlining personal, emotional and spiritual needs and medical wishes in case of serious illness or dementia.
The document, created by Aging with Dignity, a Florida-based nonprofit group, gained national momentum after Schiavo's death.
