India sets sights on cruise missile market

By Siddharth Srivastava

NEW DELHI - Long considered among the top importing nations for defense hardware, India is now looking to access the fast-growing international market for cruise missiles, considered a lethally efficient weapon.

US forces used almost 1,000 such missiles when they first entered Iraq in 2003, and the total worldwide market is expected to be more than US$10 billion in the next decade. An inventory of more than 80,000 such missiles is estimated already to exist around the world. Indian Defense Minister A K Anthony has said New Delhi is holding talks with "some countries" for the sale of cruise missiles.

You, sir, are incapable of accepting any informaton that does not fit your biases. I'm proud to have been in the US Army (basic training at Fort Knox -- which we jokingly called Fort Knoxious) and I am proud to stand with my fellow FReepers in support of our troops and their mission in Iraq and Afghanistan, and wherever else in the world we wind up fighting this evil (which hopefully we won't hve to keep doing in country after country.) I note that neither you nor any of your pro-Indian cohorts hvae ever been to any of tehse events. I wonder why?

You might try checking this out before you spread your Hindutva smears. My picture has even shown up on previous demonstration threads.

The Council of Khalistan is NOT a terrorist organization, as you very well know. Try to think beyond what your Hindutva paymasters tell you to say. You are a smear artist who cannot make an intelligent artist. I'm surprised they let you post here.

"you are a smear artist who cannot make an intelligent artist"

What are you, some sort of art critic? Go back to where you came from.

"As Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Cal.) has aid, "For the people of Jammu and Punjab and Kashmir, Indian might as well not be a democracy. For them, India might as well be Nazi Germany.""

Comparing India with Nazi Germany is just a demonstration of lack of Mr. Rohrbacher's knowledge...Jammu Kashmir has an elected government. Jammu Kashmir has the lowest incidence of poverty in the whole of India...Not because they work hard..but because they get highest per capita resource allocations in the country..
http://www.tribuneindia.com/2003/20031002/j&k.htm#2

In fact I would rather prefer if India gets rid of Kashmir ...It is just a resource drag..But the problem is once India gives up Kashmir, the flood gates would open.....The pakistanis would take that as a sign of weakness and would keep coming for more...Hence the Indian decision of not giving it up...at any cost....

"Where? The government-controlled PTI? The government-controlled TV and radio?"

I don't think that you are aware of private media in India...It was true 15/20 years back that PTI could control news...Not any more ..This is the age of 24 hours news channels and India has a large number of non-governmental media outlets...Government does not control news in India....In your mind you are living in the past...

"unfortunately, Christians, Muslims, Assamese, Bodos, Dalits, Manipuris, Tamils, and other minorities ahve also been killed by the tens of thousands. amensty International repo"

There is no concentrated government backed pogrom against minorities..In India more people die in Hindu against Hindu violence that Hindu against any minorities ....
Let's stop flogging the Kalistan dead horse......

People of Punjab are getting a better deal staying in the union that walking out of it...As far as getting better grain prices....I cannot wait for the agricultural imports to be opened up to India...The price the Punjabis are getting today is higher than international prices...In fact it is the punjab farmers who want protection now from cheaper imports.....
"With 17 official languages and no common culture, India is manynations in one, nd as Steve Forbes pointed out, history shows that countries like that fall apart."

Look at the European Union 'Honorable Sir'..The europeans are trying to put Humpty Dumpty together...and you talk of breaking Humpty Humpty apart..Don't you think something is wrong with your logic ??? In India you already have the scale of European union and a fairly stable one at that...
There have been many predicting demise of India since her inception....You would be another one in the long line of disappointed souls....Keep waiting for it to break apart ...

I acknowledge that there were wrongs done to the people of Punjab...In the last 15 years there has been a healing process...Punjab is one of the most peaceful places in India at present...If something wrong was done to you, I wish you get a chance of redemption....There are many Sikhs living in North America..I am in the favor of granting a comprehensive pardon to all Sikh Khalistan activists and getting them into the mainstream....

Let me reiterate.....'I am in favor of granting a comprehensive pardon to all Khalistan activists and inviting them back into the mainstream'. Whatever has happened has happened any no one can change that...What we can change is the future..

"BTW, India already boasts of having missiles that can reach anywhere in Pakistan. Why does it need new warheads?"

The way the things are going, 10 years from now..in all probability Indians would test missiles capable of reaching any point on the earth. You don't hear them boasting but..in fact the capability exists already...They have launched 1000 kg satellites many times...
It would take 2/3 years to make a workable missile with a 20000 Km range. It is just a matter of political will and commissioning a project. No one can stop them if they start the project..
So everyone needs to reconcile and accept the ground facts. They have their own interests and they would pursue them..The deciding factor is that India is not really hostile to US interests....and amenable to US interests...The key for US is to have a bigger relationship with India so that Indians would need to go selling round pieces of valuable hardware...They have shown remarkable restraint as it stand now...US needs to encourage the same behavior...

We all here know it as a Terrorist organisation and you (by your own admission) are a member of such an organisation.

I'm surprised they let you post here.

You claim to be in the US army and yet you have contacts with Khalistan Liberation Force and Babbar Khalsa?

I find it strange you are still part of Freerepublic. Are you a "mole" in the US Army? Are you a FreeTraitor?

Tell me if you ARE in the US army

I was. I'm not anymore. Honorable Discharge. I was a squad leader. (Among other things, I was the guy who marched the platoon to breakfast.)

No, as you very well know, that is false. But keep spreading these smears and see what happens.

"The Council of Khalistan is NOT a terrorist organization, as you very well know."

We all here know it as a Terrorist organisation

Please provide even one piece of evidence for that claim. We're all waiting. Simply saying it over and over doesn't make it so, despite what you and your Hindutva paymasters believe.

Please tell us how an organization that continually promotes "peaceful, nonviolent, democratic means" and that does its work by working with the U.S. Congress, through issuing press releases, letters, statements, newsletters, and other materials can fairly be described as "terrorist." (This should be entertainign for everyone!)

I have said before that I am not in any way part of, nor have I ever had any contact wit, Babbar Khalsa or Khalistan Liberation Force. That is a fact.

As for my U.S. Army service, I am saying what I said from teh time it came up. I served, proudly wore my country's uniform, was a squad leader, did my time, was honorably discharged, and now I do what I can to support our brave troops. I notice that that is more than you do.

I salute a guy like USMMA who is in the service, just as I was. Good for him. I wish more people would do what he is doing and what I did instead of sitting on their fat butts smearing people for daring to disagree with the lying propaganda of a bloodthirsty foreign government.

Who was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths in Japan, Korea, Congo, Vietnam, Cambodia, Afghanistan, Iraq ??
Government of India is as bloodthirsty as the US Government. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones at others...

This question reveals your leftist agenda. That doesn't belong at FR.

If you don't unedrstand the difference between defending yoour country and its interests on theone han and aggressively attacking neighbors and aggressively going after the minorities in your own country on the other hand, then you're hopeless.
