Giuliani Is Cautious (indecisive?) as He Weighs ’08 Decision
NY Times ^ | SAM ROBERTS

Posted on 01/27/2007 2:26:06 PM PST by narses

Rudolph W. Giuliani, who developed a national reputation for decisive and reassuring leadership after 9/11, now faces the odd challenge of having to reassure some supporters that he can be decisive about a very different issue: running for president. Even as his fellow Republican John McCain and fellow New Yorker Hillary Rodham Clinton have all but formally declared their candidacies, Mr. Giuliani has proceeded more cautiously.

He has, on Hannity and Colmes. He praised the President for picking Roberts and Alito and said Scalia was his favorite justice.

He also had praise for Justice Ginsberg, in the same interview, and stated that appointing a pro-life justice is unimportant to him. [Duh, Rudy is pro-abortion.] Roe v. Wade is an egregious offense upon the constructionist view of the Constitution. Yet, Giuliani supports Roe v. Wade and will appoint Justices accordingly. Hunter and Brownback have already stated their positions, in alignment with the Republican Party Platform, to support overturning Roe v. Wade.

In actuality, we don't have to compromise. Of course Hillary and Obama will be our next President and VP but we don't have to compromise :)

You start being nicer by ceasing to wrongly call Rudy supporters liberals

Well, either Rudy supporters are liberals or they're just plain stupid. I figured calling them liberal, assuming that they know what they're doing when they support a liberal, was a little nicer than assuming they're pinheads.

See Post 70 and 76.

"Yet, Giuliani supports Roe v. Wade and will appoint Justices accordingly."

Rudy supports strict constructionist without a litmus test, the same as President Bush.

Spiffy how does a president over throw a Supreme Court Decision? I know you will come up with some twisted logic but I am game, you know about those pesky things like separation of powers and all that.

I really agree. I don't think they get out much :-)

Sometimes I feel sorry for them - because they are so out of touch. They really have no idea what the electorate is like - what *the people* value - what they like to do - or read or talk about. They have no idea that many, many people admire kindness and forgiveness. That most people really don't want to be told how to live their lives :-)

But, this will go right over their heads too.

No, your post is one of a liberal, and a wet-behind the ears kid who hasn't caught on yet that supporting a liberal will get you a liberal candidate who will get SMOKED in a national election. A reagan stule candidate can win the whole ball of earwax, someone like hunter. Not a gay loving, pro abortion, gun grabber who cheated on his wife running on a republican ticket. If her were a dem, he'd be their dream candidate.

"Well, either Rudy supporters are liberals or they're just plain stupid."

No, we just know that Rudy is a fiscal conservative, a domestic policy conservative, and foreign policy conservative that's strong on national defense and would make a great CiC, and that him and McCain are the only Republians that can win the general election in 2008 and keep Hillary out of the White House. We also realize we can't stop abortion and gays don't affect our lives. If you don't realize this then you're......well, I won't take myself down to your level.

>>>>You are so taking that out of context.

You need a refresher course in reading comprehension. In politics its important to read between the lines. Rudy is again employing rhetorical obfuscation to make him sound like he's making perfect sense. Meanwhile, there isn't a dimes worth of difference between the politics of liberal Ruth Bader Ginsberg, former council to the ACLU, and liberal Rudy Giuliani.

Rudy heaps praises on Ruth Bader Ginsberg .... she is "very intelligent, very honest, very good lawyer".... "very qualified lawyer, very smart person".

You're spinning yourself crazy. Rudy is no conservative.

I guess that because I am not a Liberal then I am just plain 'stupid'. As far as the 'pinhead' epithet goes, don't flatter yourself.

It's not just stopping abortion, Rudy is a horrendous candidate for a lot of reasons, mostly because he will not beat a dem by trying to be like a dem.

No, my post is that of a pragmatic and realistic conservative that understands political realities. Your post is of a.........well, again, I'm not going to bring myself down to your level with name calling. I can respectfully agree to disagree unlike some people on here.

If you support Hunter - why do you feel the need to bash Rudy?

You won't find one post of mine bashing Hunter.
