I had just arrived in Pleiku for my first tour. Our Hueys hadn't even arrived yet. I do remember it from the Stars & Stripes.

If only Americans were as united now in facing the enemy.

Is that possible with people like Michael Moore and Ted Kennedy out there?

You've been missing out!
I think Steyn is the best conservative author out there.

Here is his website.

That is why I don't watch C-Span any more. They have phone numbers for Conservatives, Liberals and Moderates. Of course the Moderates and Liberals are Liberals but the Conservatives always start with "I am a Conservative" and you know right away they aren't.

Mark Steyn's best observation this morning was the reason Europe is a lost cause is the European Right is as committed to statism as the European Left. And the tendency since 1945, when offered a choice between freedom and government security, Western electorates have overwhelmingly preferred the latter. Freedom can be messy, frightening and overwhelming. So there's been an infantilization of people in that its easier to just let someone else take care of you. But it also makes one less inclined to face up to the reality the world is a dangerous place that does not look too kindly on dependent people. At some point in our own lives we are on our own and we're meant to figure it out as we go along. Slaves don't have that burden but free people do.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus

One does not preclude the other. While I understood the necessity of getting the economy going, more of an effort should have been made to get people involved in the war effort.

Hindsight always makes things seem obvious. At the time, the administration was worrying about whether or not there would be other attacks, getting ramped up to go into Afghanistan, and wrestling with Congress (which had a democrat Senate due to the Jeffords jump).

Plus, one doesn't know if Americans would really have gone along with a mobilization for more than a couple months...remember, Hillary stood in the well of the Senate and waved that "Bush Knew" headline in December of 2001.

"Armies don't win wars - nations win wars.",/p>

Put that up against what we heard after 9-11 - we've been attacked, now go shopping.

Considering how people go ballistic every time the price of gas goes up, I don't think this nation is prepared to do what it needs to do to win any more wars. Much easier simply to sleep through it all, win or lose, and ask to be awakened when it's over.

I've been saying he should have his own show for years. I even wrote him about it. I got a nice reply from a secretary saying he was too busy, yada, yada.

The first network that realizes his sort of political insight that is laced with hilarious satire and humor is going to make a mint with this guy.

It's refreshing to listen to a rational (his) voice, it makes me believe I am sane in understanding the threat we face as a nation from militant islam.....when all around me the nation sleep walks towards the buzz saw....

Unfortunately, as I see it, this nation is in for a very rude awakening due to our desire to follow the democrats down the path of least resistance....we all are going to pay a very high price, a price we may not be able to recover from as a nation.....

It's 9 am in CA - I just flipped on C-SPAN and the speaker from the "anti-war" march is talking about Palestine ..??

I thought this march was about Iraq ..??

It will be more anti-Bush than anything else. The left has to pitch a big tent to get more than 1,000 protesters to gather at any one time.
