CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - Shawn Hornbeck's parents hope "to step out of the spotlight" to focus on their abducted son's healing now that he has returned home.

That plan to take a lower profile was announced Tuesday during a news conference, as a suburban St. Louis homebuilder detailed plans to build a new house for Shawn and his parents, Craig and Pam Akers. The home will include office space for the Shawn Hornbeck Foundation, which Shawn's parents began as a means to aid in the search for missing kids soon after Shawn disappeared in 2002.

Larry King Live called me around 5:00 today with the news.
There were trying to get in touch with Shawn's parents. I watched their broadcast and they did do an interview with Chris Diamond. He's a supporter and a super guy who has been there from the beginning.

Tim Miller from Texas EquuSearch also called me with the news.

For you to blame Shawn's family , after all the WONDERFUL things they have done for missing children's family groups infuriates Me ! Shawn's Dad lost a leg while searching for a missing child , & they depleted their lives savings helping other missing children . They went on Oprah to keep the 2000+ Stalking reporters away , & they did NOT recieve money for their appearance either !

My relatives live in Simi Valley , I've been to the Ronald Reagan Library numerous times . You can't buy a home in Simi Valley for 350,000 . I Also admire Charleston Heston too for what he was president of !

I believe what most people are upset with is... the money the Akers may make from this. Never mind that Pam Aker has suffered tremendously with her young 5th grader being snatched away for 4 yrs. Her beauty gone off her face from the grief she has suffered. Never mind that they went thru their life savings to search for him. Never mind that they went thru their retirement fund to find him. Never mind that they have spent the last 4 yrs helping other parents find their missing children, or helped in search and rescue of all sorts. Never mind that Shawns step dad lost a leg while searching for another parents missing child up in Canada. Never mind the sleepless nights, the grief, the heartache. It all boils down to one thing. How much money are these people going to get.

You know, what's so terrible about them getting a new house anyway? Isn't this just another kind and noble gesture for a family who has been through hell and back? Even if they did make money on a book deal, why would that be a problem? Other people write books and make movies without a fuss. Why begrudge them this? I don't understand that kind of thinking at all. It's not like they arraigned their son's kidnapping to make money.

You're right. The storm was going to happen with or without them, so they might as well have controlled it the best they could. Of course, there are those who will never be satisfied. The same people like BOR who were initially speculating that Shawn was enjoying life as a sex slave are now turning around and bashing the Akers for the "damage" done to him by appearing on Oprah. There is no pleasing such people. They love to be naysayers. And once you shut down one avenue of attack, they just come up with another one. Whatever happened to conservatives being optimists and thinking the best of youth and the future?
