The constitution does not grant a right-- in the way that we find things such as freedom of speech. The constitution acknowleges habeas corpus but it is not the the origin of that claim.

The Constitution does not "grant" any rights, period. All it does is acknowledge that Americans already have rights, some of which it lists and some of which it doesn't.

The Attorney General really ought to know that.

The Constitution grants no rights. The Constitution itself was writ against Federal government encroachment on the states, listing exactly what the Feds could do.

The BOR was appended to the Constitution to give a broad list of rights already possessed by the citizens.

The Federal Government grants us nothing, but does (or rather should) acknowledge our God-given rights as free men.

The Attorney General really ought to know that. hmm... what is that thing we call the "Bill of Rights"? I thought that was part of the Constitution.
