Iranian President says "wise" Americans will bar any attack (Barf Alert)

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Tuesday he did not expect a U.S. attack on Iran because there were plenty of "wise people" in the United States who would not let it happen.

Iran and the United States are at loggerheads over Tehran's nuclear program, which Washington says is a cover for making bombs, and over Iraq, where U.S. officials say Iran is fuelling sectarian violence. Tehran denies both charges.

Washington says it wants to solve the nuclear standoff by diplomacy but has not ruled out strikes if that fails.

"They are not in a position to carry out that measure although they may like to ... because there are many wise people in America who will not let this happen," the president said in an interview on Iranian television.

The United States has sent a second aircraft carrier to the Gulf, a move analysts interpreted as a warning to Iran. U.S. officials say the step was taken to increase operational flexibility and to provide deterrence in the region.

If we hit Iran Iran would send troops enmasse into Iraq to confront American forces. We could be surrounded if mookie covers their back. Many casulties. Don't know if we have sufficient forces and supply to sustain a full scale military attack by Iran

But then again a well placed nuke could end it all.

I say take em down while we have the edge in the nuke dept..

I wish she would wear a burka and put a cork in her mouth. That would make me happy.

Time's a wasting. No time like the present. Better late (now) than never. Make hay while the sunshines. If we aren't prepared, we need to get prepared so we an Be Prepared. Like yesterday.

For a contrary position one of the GOP wannabees just gave a speech, at an international conference in Israel, outlining his thoughts on dealing with Iran. Those here trying to pick a primary candidate who either want someone they agree with on a variety of issues, or who are single issue on this issue may be interested. No transcript available, just a 20 minute audio at this time. Suitable for background noise while surfing the web.

Yes, they are all politicians and as such can only be given limited trust and even then, as Reagan said, "Trust but verify." I consider three things when evaluating a political speech. First, the text: if they say what you want they still might not do it, but if they don't say what you want they hardly ever do what you want. Second, who and what do they cite in support of their positions? You may not yet know much about some candidates, but their sources may be well known to you and verifiable. If their sources generally lean in one direction the candidate likely leans similarly. Third, consider their delivery. Recent history shows that Bush's greatest weakness, with the possible exception of his compassion toward liberals, is his Achilles mouth. The new media may be growing, but we still need a good communicator to get our message past the MSM blockade. Is the candidate up to the task?

As an Iowan I have to choose early and I haven't decided yet. I know enough to rule some out of anything short of a desperate nose holding vote. I'm still researching others, trying to verify their trustworthiness. The campaign is afoot, as shown by some strident posts at this board of late. Doubtless some such posts are correct; many Freepers are reliable sources. However, methinks some doth protest too much. Decide for yourself. Check out the Romney link about if you are interested.

Please, if this would actually turn into a conventional war we would wipe the map with Iranian casualties. We have more than enough troops to destroy the best Iran could throw at us if we had to the gloves off to blow everything up in sight.

Our air assets alone would decimate Iranian armor. A couple of MOABs would crush Iranian morale and mookies boys would be little more than gnats to swipe out of the way.

We have a 130,000 of the best equipped and trained soldiers in the world there backed with air and sea assets. None of our enemies really has an inkling how much firepower we could wield with that strength. If we had to fight an unrestricted conventional battle the world would really see how destructive shock and awe is.

Hey I believe in our troops and their capability. I am also realsitic in knowing that Since 1991, Iran has been able to re-arm and rebuild its military after 10 years of war with Iraq. They have a lot of good stuff, a lot of soviet and chinese arms. Migs and other fighter planes.
We have good stuff too. I am just saying that a lot of good soldiers will die. When the body bags start piling up our surrender monkeys will go hysterical bannanas. They are freaking over 3000 casulties over 4 years.

Dont get me wrong. I want to take out Iran. But not with conventional forces. Nukes. Not as messy. Nukes save Americans. Just like they did when we bombed Japan.
