I believe IBM gave their employees health care from the beginning, but I'm not sure. They never had unions, but they truly were like a family more than a business with their employees, until the 80s.

I'd check on that, if I were you.

I happen to know, for an absolute fact, that it was the unions, right after WW II, that FORCED the health care stuff! Did nonunion companies follow suit, later, yes, they did; but, it wasn't their own thought.
