My thoughts on the speech...

The overall tone was restrained. Not nearly the amount of energy out of Bush - or applause from the well - that we've seen in past speeches.

I thought the portion covering domestic issues sounded like a Democrat president speaking, but obviously the foreign policy stuff is right on the mark.

Chris Wallace called it a "mixed bag". I'd say that's about right.

Outside of comments about the need to stay strong and united in the WOT, support the troops and win the battle for Iraq..... the domestic policy portion of this speech sounded like the usual laundry list of more government intrusion into the lives of the American people. And of course, the obligatory call for liberal immigration reform.... AKA. comprehensive immigration reform .... AMNESTY!

Once again, President Bush showed why he is just another big government Republican. You'd think after six years, Bush would be able to get it right. SOTUS 2007 Rating: C-

Seems to me that was the same comment they had about last year's SOTU. These things have become the ultimate DC dog and pony show anyhow. Absolutely none of the things he talked about have a chance of becoming reality in today's political climate, and some of them shouldn't under any circumstances. And the President knows it as well as the Dims do.
