We'll have to equip our satellites with anti-missile technology.

A talking head recently declared that China is well on its way to replacing the US as the #1 superpower.

"..test of a satellite-killing weapon is shaking up perceptions about where the Chinese space program is headed."

You've got to be kidding. Someone is worried?

The Marxists hope so and are assisting where possible.

China has sent men into orbit and launched dozens of satellites...

Thanks to Bill Clinton allowing Loral's Bernard Schwartz to transfer missile guidance technology to the ChiComs in exchange for a few bucks in campaign contributions.

I'm less concerned about this than I am with Russia attempting to get us to back down over placing anti-missile systems in former Warsaw pact countries.

Any country which expects to able to defend its borders had better be able to take out overhead satellites.

I don't trust the Red Chinese as far as I can throw them, but this development could be taken as a defensive posture.

China believes in China - it does not worship at the altar of globalism, as we do.

Those that tell me I am foolish when I tell them we are funding the war that our children will fight and die against China with our trade deficites today....

Any of you want to rethink your position now?

I'm not thrilled that they're spreading high speed shrapnel all over up there. That said, are any of the flat earthers getting the idea of why we need to be in space and in the forefront?

"In Washington, the Defense Department and President Bush's National Security Council declined to comment Tuesday."

We need a communicator that has some bite in 2008. Think on his feet in 2008.

However, while China's act looked aggressive, some U.S. officials were skeptical that Beijing would do anything to attack the satellites of the United States or Japan - key trading partners.

Which officials would those be, exactly? C'mon, AP, name some names. I dare you...

In fact, it's really only a matter of time before China replaces the US as the world's #1 superpower. This has become even more apparent given the apparent desire of a majority of Americans to make this happen. For example, we no longer have the will to defend ourselves against Islamic fascism. We make excuses for our enemies. We'd rather fight and defeat George Bush than fight and defeat our enemies in Iraq. Don't tell me it's not all Americans; 60% is enough to make it so.

China, on the other hand, will never kowtow (no pun intended) to an Islamic enemy. Moreover, it has a rapidly growing sense of the need for economic and political freedom. China may never be a "western" democracy, but nor will she ever be the totalitarian threat she was 25 or 30 years ago. That geni simply won't go back in the bottle.

"...some U.S. officials were skeptical that Beijing would do anything to attack the satellites of the United States or Japan - key trading partners." What if the Washington planners responsible for putting all of our eggs in one basket, i.e. building up China's economy to where they can militarily compete with us, was a BIG mistake and has just the opposite effect - they are perfectly willing to incinerate their "key trading partners?" Does anyone ever consider that?

Still, its unclear what message China intended to send...

They aren't sending any message. Did Hitler "send a message" in Czechoslovakia? Western liberal governments send messages - the Chinese are simply proceeding with their military expansion (i.e., space program) as intended.

The truth in the pudd'n will be in GW's actions in the next few months. If he proceeds to go Left with the following, we will have to rethink how we restrict our Government's intrusion into our personal lives:

1. Illegal Alien Amnesty - 30 to 60 million more Mexicans
2. Cap on CO2. Proposed 20% cut on auto emissions - rationing and taxes
3. Health Care - The beginning of Socialized Medicine

"You could argue that China is getting ready to do a lot of things that the U.S. is now losing the ability to do," Hewson said. "So that in itself is a challenge to the U.S."

Oh fercryingoutloud. You could argue that about Japan or the ESA. You could also argue that China is getting ready to escalate its public failure and humiliation when they try to cover up the first time a 'yuhuangyuan" is incinerated in a space accident like Columbia, or worse.
